I think a standard 12v coil or lucas sports should work just fine (so long as it's the 12v)

I ran mine on a 9v coil for a while, and it seemed to run OK at first, but has fried the module after a few hundred miles :D

Was this the issue in newquay?

So can you use a 12V coil and 12V feed with these kits or not?

Bit confused as I need a new coil and am thinking about a Lucas Sports one, pre 84 (and therefore requires a 12V supply correct???)

My kit has been fine so far running it on the standard ballast wiring so don't want to goose the lot running 12V into it.........

Have put this kit on my 81 clubman estate.

Easy as pie to fit, also changed my coil from a ballasted coil to the gold sports coil 12v running off the switched 12v from the fusebox.

Its covered 80 odd miles now and hasnt missed a beat.

Tried to fit my second one around 2 weeks ago, wired in excactly as instructed, red too coil + and black to standard dizzy earth. Wouldnt start, just cant be arsed with it now, so points went straight back on.

Do you mean you earthed it on the dizzy?

The red goes to + terminal on the coil

The black goes to the - terminal on the coil

Also check the rotor arm is pushed fully home, mine was a very tight fit.

Edit, hello crocks!!

We posted at the same time!!!

never mind! look and you shall find! :)

Never again will I even try to remotely understand the ways in which my mini works. it simply defies logic.

The engine was tuned, on a rolling road, running points and condenser ignition, and ran great. making 98 bhp at the wheels. everything was sweet.

it had some starting issues, and suffered from terrible misfiring in the rain, so I ordered a britpart ignition module, which my dad fitted for me whilst I was at uni.

the car ran better than ever, and when I came home, it was awesome to drive.

After about 400 miles, it started running really poorly, and wouldn't pull under load at all.

I pulled the dizzy apart this morning, to find Dad had installed the pick up for the electronic ignition kit 90 degrees out from where it should be! how the feck did it ever even start? let alone run and be very quick? it just makes no sense.

I put in a new module, in the correct place, so effectively changing the timing 90 degrees from where it was when it started yesterday, and it's now started up and runs smoother than ever.

I just don't get how it ran and drove for 400 miles with the timing 90 degrees out, it makes no sense at all!

the problems only occurred after 400 miles, because the single screw he used to secure it (could inly fit one due to incorrect position!) had come loose. so the module was moving around inside the dizzy, yet it still ran!

Really is such a mystery to me. it shouldn't have run at all.

Can't wait to take it out now, but it's raining, so i won't let myself.

This is how it was installed in my dizzy when I pulled the cap off this morning! (mocked up in a spare dizzy for a photo) I wish I'd checked it sooner!

I've ordered myself one of these, spoke to the owner, and he was amazed at how many he was selling for mini's! Gave him a link to the website as he was quite interested.

Mine is coming of tomorrow. I've tried 2 and both have had the same problem.

When you've been giving it the beans for 10 minutes or so they seem to over heat and misfire badly. If you pull over for a minute or two you can drive for another mile or so, but then it starts again. The only choice then is to limp home and let the car cool down for an hour or two...

Anybody else seen this??

Ordered mine yesterday, arrived today. I assume this little packet of white stuff is thermal compound and is supposed to sit underneath the module to stop it overheating?

Does anyone know if the module works with 'impulse' tachos (old style Smiths), resp. if 'impulse ('RVI') tachos work with the module?

Does anyone know if these fit the 25D distributor? With Vacuum advance or does that not matter?

Thanks
