what could happen apart from oil being flicked all over the bonnet??

There are things called phones where you could ring up and order one, then have it delivered to you

this is the kind of thing i was thinking of. but with a thicker piece of plastic and a cable tiecouldnt you stick a bit of cling film over the hole and put an elastic band around it for now?
or do the plastic caps breathe???
just a thought
