Unipart Green is good running in oil, use that and a can of flush. It does make sense to do it this way with 6 year old oil rather than just adding flush to what you've got.

thanks for replies .
yer theres not much point in just adding the flush to very very old oil,i dought it will do anything,

if i use the unipart green and a oil flush how long will i need to keep that oil in and running.my cars not on the road yet so i cant drive it.
will it be ok just to let it idle for 20-30 mins, drain then refill with duckams ready for the mot.
cheers

I seem to remember that oil flush is only meant to be left in for 15 minutes of running anyhow, it won't matter if you aren't able to drive it about. Maybe give it a bit longer in this case (6 years, are you serious? A mate of mine left his Mk2 Astra for 5 years without a new filter once because he couldn't find the right one in Halfords but 6 years on the same oil in a Mini is madness!).

I doubt it was the flush that affected the seals on the Fiesta. More likely they were worn out and had a good layer of engine varnish behind them keeping them oil tight, the flush would have washed this off. There is always the chance that this will happen in the Mini too and there's not much you can do to avoid it. I just use Wynns flush.

If you want a good flushing agent use diesel...

Drain the oil out, and put a gallon of diesel in where the oil goes, run the car up untill it's nice and hot keep a close eye on the oil pressure, once it's been running for 5 mins or so you might strt to get an oil pressure light flicker, pick the revs up a slight bit untill it goes out but don't rev it over 1500 rpm.

keep it running as long as posible, if the oil pressure light comes on and it's at 1500 rpm then turn it off.

just do not even attempt to drive it as it will go bang.

Before i get loads of replies saying you can't do this etc.. i have been doing this to customers cars and my own cars for the last 11 years and had no problems, it works wonders on cars with noisy hydraulic tappets.. just don't do it on a car that is turbo'd.

A gallon of diesel currently costs more than a can of flush!
