Hi,

When converting from RHD to LHD you also want to convert the wiper to right hand part (it's left hand park on a RHD). Been looking at the excellent Somerford Mini catalogs, most of the things are the same but I can't make heads out of tails what components to change to make the wiper mechanism right hand park.

There is only one wiper motor listed (well exchange/new), same with parking switch and the gear shaft no LHD/RHD difference listed. The only thing different motor wise is the mounting pad and wiper cover. So the question is if it's just so that you can change the posistion of the parking switch the wiper motor assembly will all of a sudden become right hand park? I have not had it a part yet wanted to ask first.

Tube wise I get. The first tube from motor to the first wheel box assembly has to be different (there are three versions in the catalog one for RHD and two for LHD). The hole for the wiper pivots are closer to the motor so that one is pretty obvious. Hence the question is if it's shorter or just a different bending radius? If it was shorter the "wire" I assume it's some sort of gear wire or wire has to be shorter (all other tubes are the same hence equal length there) but according to the catalog it's the same for both LHD and RHD.

Hence the question are: How do you enable right hand park is it a new part or just an adjustment. What is the difference between the LHD and RHD initial wiper tube. I hope I have't been to wordy and that somebody can enlighten me :-.

Big thanks in advance
Dyna

PS: Yes I'm in the UK and no I not exporting but I'm from abroad hence I like my Mini to be LHD and I intend to convert it. I sorted the other bits it's just the wiper thing that bugs me ;D....

I don't know about the older cars, but the ones with the late type servo (1989ish on) have the wiper motor mounted onto the servo bracket on the right hand side of the car (as viewed from the drivers seat), whereas RHD cars have them mounted to the bulkhead on the left side of the car just behind the radiator. It's the different positioning of the motor that means the wipers park on the other side.

Thanks JR!!!

Didn't think that far, actually very cleaver solution. Checking a few engine pics of LHD cars (different years) and it looks like they all have in on the right hand side of the firewall (bulkhead). Checking the Somerford Mini catalog for all years and it's only the first tube (seen from wiper motor) and the mounting pad that is different. Looks like it must be so for all years at least from 68 and up. It looks to be like that for earlier cars to but they mount with stud so I can't realy tell if there is mount points for the studs on both sides of the wiper motor for early years. Anyways thanks, for enlighten me makes my life a lot easier now.. :shy:

Cheers Dyna
