Did 1275 GT's come with 10" wheels as standard? I can't remember if they did or didn't! :nugget:

the early 1275gts had 10" wheels and the 7.5" cooper disc brake set up.
This was until around 72-73-74 maybe. not sure on the exact year!
After that they got the standard 8.4 Disc brake set up with 12" wheels.
The early ones are rather rare and hard to find!

I thought so. I drove to look at a VERY poorly GT today, a 1979 'T' plate. It was awful, last taxed in 1993, and every door including the boot lid fell off when i tried to open them. It had a Webasto roof though! It crossed my mind that the brakes might be 7.5's but no they were 8.4's (as I would have realised had i read the last message before I went to see the car). The engine was that rusty you couldn't read the engine number. How could anyone do that to a Mini!?

I certainly did. I'd seen it a few times before and it looked quite good from the road! I think the only thing worth saving on the car was the decent looking clubman bonnet that had somehow been shoved through the hole in the roof and wedged on top of the seats. oh and maybe the GT steering wheel. It had no grille or bumper either. Nothing going for it really! Poor thing!

If it is a real GT, then it might have Hi-Lo's on it...

Really? I didn't know that. Thing is, the poor things been stood for at least 11 years, i examined as much as i could of the front brakes and they're just awful. Split pins rusted into the calipers, pads rusted to the discs, discs pitted and covered in surface rust, engine brown with rust, dipstick showing no oil, engine number too rusty to read, sills with holes big enough to put a fist through, interior smelling like old wellies. I don't think its worth saving, as any bits taken off would probably cost more to repair than new bits would be to buy. Its a shame.
I'll take a photo, showing the contrast between mine as a 78', and that as a 79', perhaps run a little 'spot the difference' competition!

Engine rust on the outside isnt anything to worry about! It takes decades for an engine to die because of rust!
How much was the car? Might be worth getting its brakes and buying another clubbie and slappign on the brakes/engine?
As far as I know (going from my 1275 too) gts did not ever have hi-los!
You said doors and lid fell off... if they are not rusty or dented they might be worth something!
You can never have enough spares, TRUST me!
But if you're looking for something to get in and drive, forget it!

No the doors were completely shot at the bottom, and they fell off because the hinge panels had detached themselves from the inner wings/a panels! The engine had no oil, and the rocker cover was off, so chances are its siezed. Your right about the spares though, I chopped up a terminal 87' Advantage, so i've got lots of nice useful bits lying about! As well as some of the bits taken off the pick-up.
