Here is what i do know.. The engine had a 1275 type engine steady on it when i removed it from the car. It had a 1.75 SU carb on it. The numbers stamped on the block are BHM1667E 149926. There is also a number stamped on the side of the block by where the dizzy goes in and its WFM 1024. I have attempted to find out the engine size in the past wit not luck. Please help. I have put a pic on of the Engine. Any Ideas??

I think that most of the BHM engines are gold seal units?
As for size i cant seem to find it......very strange.

The E at the end means its a reconditioned, service unit (basic engine assembly with no ancillaries).

Well thats more than i did know. Thanks for that. Is there any other way to tell an engine size other than the numbers on the block and what exactly is a "gold seal unit"

The Goldseal and silverseal engines are 'factory reconditioned' units Made by UNIPART.

Do a search,.. there are many threads about them and there it's lots of info to be found.

Generally they're a bit tougher compared to an original engine,.. as most of them (if not all of them) will have had the cylinder walls linered.

There were only two BHM codes that had an E on the end, one was used on 850's and the other was on 1275's

Since yours had a 1275 engine steady on,... I think it's safe to say your engine will be a 1275. If it isn't... then it's an 850 with a 1275 head... which is unlikely.

(edit**) and looking at your alternator brakets position,.... It's an A+ type engine,.. which means it was built during or after 1980,... so it aint an 850.

So i believe you have a standard 1275 'factroy replacement' Gold seal engine.

(more edit**) DONT YOU HAVE THE LOG BOOK?

If there are two core plugs in the end of the block above the clutch it's a 1275
If only one core plug it's a small one , 998 probably :o

I do have the Log book which says its a 1275 but i wanted to make sure thats what i had. I got the car from a doggy person so could have been an 850 for all i knew. I will have a look at the core plugs just to verify that its a 1275. Thanks for all the info guys. Hopefully she will be on the road in a couple months time. Ill try and post up some pics.

i think the WFM1024 is a give away that it is a 1275 block.

Another way of checking would be to look on the back of the block. If there are tappet covers then its small bore, no tappet covers and its large bore (exceptions are the Cooper S blocks, but yours isn't one of those with that engine number).

Well i did some research and found out some info but not exactly what i wanted so here goes. The WFM 1024 was cast on to some 998's as well as some 1275's and some 1.3 metro turbo and no turbo engines. As for the BHM1667E 149926 Well they did not find that exact number but they did find a BHM1668 and BHM1669 that were both Metro 1.3's. I guess i will pull the head and measure the bore and stroke to get an idea of what it is. Hope this maybe helps some people and ill let you know what i find out when i pull the head. All this info is direct from UNIPART

Jammy, Ill have a look see if there are any tappet covers but im pretty sure there are not any.
