I was at Castle Combe for the mini action day and found out that I was only getting about 3/4 throttle so it must have been like that on the dvd because it feels a whole lot faster now, lol!!

Do you mean my front suspension or my bodywork??

I await in anticipation for details of your proposed build!!

My other half booked the start of our holiday on the 24th September 13.00 flight time - I was gutted !!

So, your car is actually faster than a 13.4 quarter (I think that's what it ran, you may have to correct me)?

I was referring to the bodywork - sorry.

We're just sourcing the steel for the floor this week and then its full steam ahead.

I got the front end from minisport, seems quite good quality compared to some i have seen.

My fastest time was 13.18secs at Shakespeare. I think now with the A048's and full throttle should be around 12.5 secs!

Got any pics of yours?

It was your car that sealed it for us really. I had been in Chris's demo the standard R1 carb car and were impressed. I just really wanted to see one on a track/quarter mile before I made up my mind. (were originally doing a 16v vauxhall conversion).

Is your engine a standard R1 injection?? or have you modded it to achieve those times.

As for the front, I was just curious and looking for a photo for the site. We supply Chris with all his front ends and bootlids but I think you may have bought your kit before we approached him. Did you get your group 7's from e-bay at all??

Here is a pic of the car our project will be based around. (my first, when I was 17, some 8 years ago now though).
The intention is to use only the bulkhead and front subframe, we'll use Chris's kit as the basis for the spaceframe.

Mine is a carbed engine with dynojet kit and foam filter, tuned at TTS racing. It did have a straight through exhaust on it at Shakespeare but that was far too loud (approx 125dB!) so i have now got the standard R1 can back on which you can see pics of a few pages back. I haven't noticed any difference in performance after swapping the exhaust.

Can't remember where i got the arches from, i've had them for ages!!

Why did you chop out the front end, did it have a vauxhall in it?

So plenty more tuning options avalable for you then!

Those figures you get are great then for a mild state of tuning - even more impressed with these conversions now.

The front bulkhead was cut a few years ago (before I started Custom Minis - when I had more time on my hands). The scuttle was pretty much gone, so I bought a new heritage one, the intention was to box out the bulkhead and tie it into the cage (miglia style). Once the business got started that was it, the Mini went to the burner behind the back burner.

We approached Chris about 18 months ago and went to visit him with a few samples - it was then when he offered to take us out in the demo R1 carb Mini (the white one). I was hooked straight away and my Mini project became fresh in my head once more - although its taken until now to get things moving.

Did you get to run the 1/4 mile in standard tune? Chris doesn't list this time on his site - only the 0-60

Les

Where abouts is Cradley Heath?? Have you got a website?

I never ran the mini in standard tune as it wasn't running right anyway, big drop in the power band between 6 and 8000rpm before getting it sorted on the rolling road.

The white mini you went out in was Lee Olivers which is about 80Kgs heavier than mine as it is fully trimmed. I don't know who's got it now.....

Cheers
Dale

Cradley Heath is in the West Midlands, M5 junc 2 or 4

our web site is Custom Minis

Yeah, I saw Lee Olivers Mini for sale on e-bay a while back, was looking a little bruised and battered though.

Hi Dale,

Sorry for taking the pic, its easier than organising a proper shoot. I really outta change that one as its a misrepresentation, our bars are not like that.

chris had asked us to look at vents for the sides of the Mini but not the roof, I've not seen the roof one he's got.

We didn't get very far with them to be honest other things took over unfortunately.

There was a guy on e-bay doing a very nice roof vent, like the wrx subaru style. he does other vents as well - might be worth a try??

No probs!! (when do i get my royalties, lol   )

You can see the roof vent on zcars website. I was considering a similiar induction setup for mine to get the noise level down but i got measured at castle combe and was well below the 105dB with the normal airbox and then swapped my TTS one back on after the noise test without any black flags!

Just looked at that vent, might be worth going to Chris, we don't do the shells for him he gets them locally, its more than likely the guy is doing the vent as well.

Chris made that vent himself out of aluminium. Not sure if he has sprayed it white or just left it bare....
