I'd be interested if you could let me know how much this ends up setting you back?? :grin:As a result I'm getting a custom end can made up by "the carbon can company" in Fleetwood. Going for an oval can to improve ground clearance and clearance to the gaitor, and you can also fit dB eaters to help with sound deadening at trackdays. Then take it off afterwards and deafen pedestrians, and small furry animals. This solution also avoids the extra weight (!) of a mid section.

Yes, I really must find out! As usual I neglected to mention the cost when I spoke to them, but I'm reckoning on circa £300.I'd be interested if you could let me know how much this ends up setting you back??
I need to send them a drawing, but I have to wait until my engine's back in the car to take some measurements. I'm planning on having the main silencer body stopping short of the rear valance, with just the exit pipe protruding
I'll ask if they'll do a discount on more than one end can if anyone is interested?

Thanks for your drawing, we can make the can for you no problem, it would
be a little easier if the sleeve length was 450mm as we already stock that
size.
The price is £137.24 + vat, if you want 5 or more we can give you an extra
10% discount.
Regards
Simon"
The above is an email I received from the carbon can company, and I reckon that's a result! The drawing I sent wasn't finalised, as I need to check whether I can achieve the results I'm after with a 450mm sleeve length, and I also want to make absolutely sure that my design is going to be ok before giving them the go-ahead- something I can't do until my engine's back in the car.
Any design changes I make won't have a great effect on cost though.
This was based on a carbon fibre sleeve. They also do titanium, S.S., and LOTS of different finishes....
Hope this helps.

Inconel- this is the stuff they fabricate F1 exhaust manifolds from right? I wonder what the cost variance is between inconel and stainless steel :gasp:
Good luck- let us know how you get on.

Did you put the mounts in for the exhaust before you painted it (a bit of forward thinking  ) Nice carbon boot, have you just left the rear boot floor in at the ends and boxed it off to strengthen it and support the valance?
Any more pics of the rest of the car??

It is a standard R1 titanium can with the end cap modified to accept a tailpipe. The whole thing comes apart so that any can can be used in the future. I also have a carbon R1 can but i think the titanium one is a bit lighter.
I left the corners in at the back to give a bit of extra strength. The box sections were a very convenient place to weld a crossbar in for the new can!!
I have got loads of pics of the car. Anything in particular you wanted to see??

The front end is all fibreglass with removable bonnet. I got it from Minisport. I have heard that Minisport ones are usually crapp but mine is pretty good so i must have got a good one!! It is secured on with zsus fasteners from Demon Tweeks with 2 allens bolts on the front (hidden under the grille). I will take some more piccies this week and send them to your email address.
Have you got any recent pics of yours??? You can post them on here if you like..

Just out of interest, are you using any kind of sump windage plate? I've just fitted mine this weekend and couldn't wait to get the sump back on! (didn't like the idea of my engines internals being open to debris- despite being well masked up). Can sleep easier now!
Also, I'm after a bit of advice regarding the air filter backing plate. How have you attached it to the carbs (assuming you have a non-injection engine)? I'm thinking of sandwiching the backing plate between the main carb body and the ring which is held on with 2 screws, but I don't know if this would be correct.

I haven't got a sump baffle fitted if thats what you mean?? I have heard that a lot of people are now taking them out as they have been found to crack up and damage the engine. I'm not sure what type of baffle they are talking about as the ones I have seen are thin tin so they should be quite flexible.
R1mini, have you still got yours fitted/going to keep it??
For the airfilter base, I used the rubbers off a standard R1 airbox and sealed them into the plate with black silicon sealant. I think that is what most people do. It works very well, not had any problems with it.
Any pics of ures willy-D?
