I'm not worried - honest!!

Still lots more to get though unfortunately! The engine will be worth more than the car

Dude, the engine is going to be worth it!

I spent about £1k on mine and that was a reeeeeally standard rebuild, just basically an overbore, a regrind, new Vandervell bearing shells, new oil pump, Mahle pistons, gaskets...... standard cack.

I got the SBD steel idler kit for mine, definitely a sound investment I reckon. I wish I'd gone to town on the bottom end and got decent rods and got the crank properly worked though.

Anyways, carry on! ;)

Haha, cheers Matt! I didn't think twice about getting the metal idlers, after the plastic ones giving way on my dads V6 Vectra a couple years ago! Debating whether to get anything done to the crank, as it will probably be the only standard bit left ;). I sourced an early type crank which is already lighter than the late ones, so i might just get it balanced?

Don't really know yet, but they are meant to be pretty bomb proof as standard!

That's very neat. It looks great!! Another row of holes to come out though I reackon.

If your getting serious about the weight loss, those alloy door furniture kit's weigh loads.

I reackon im going to go back to plastic ones on mine.

Is this car still in regular use by the way?

You reckon right there Ben :P. Bust my holesaw up on the first hole (as the wheel well is behind the valance in the middle!) so i had to weld another pilot bit in there to do that row :(

There will be more weight loss to come when i CBA really, hopefully on the doors. Car is behaving as my daily driver at the mo, so pretty pleased with that. Gave a merc a good run around coming home on friday

Cheers Pete :genius: Should have some nice forged steel rods to befriend them soon :-

There's another 20 easy grams to come off the exhaust by removing that bracket there, tom. Thought you were trying to lighten this thing .
