Well to change the oil pump its engine out realistically anyways, so might as well strip it down and inspect it for what its worth. I'm 100% sure it wasnt a bit of swarf on the journals, and from day 1 the hot oil pressure was 30psi, but just randomly dropped to 25psi one day. Unless its my gauge thats going tits up?

hmm, again unlikely the gauge is going mad, is it an electric one? or Capillary?

Im just hoping its something easy to solve, though i know the lump has gotta come out really ;D

Its a capillary gauge. Is there anything else that could cause low pressure at idle when warm? I'm using 20W50 obviously. Just wont to be sure before i start getting cranks and shells sorted etc.

One other thing - im guessing its not a big end shell issue, as its not in the main oil gallery? So it IS mains and thrusts?

As im thinking along the lines of the Oil Pressure Relief valve has stuck..

Pressure at idle when cold is around 70psi

Its a bit of a long shot. You should be getting around 40Lbs of oil pressure at idle..

Did you put new Oil gallery plugs when you did the engine?

Yeah maybe thats why LOL :D . But seriously now, engine it coming out at weekend, 22psi at idle is way too low for my liking. Its a fresh new build FFS!

Right well i checked the relief valve - has the ball & spring :(, and i never touch the oil gallery plugs, i always leave them well alone. Thay all looked good though to be honest, no signs of anything strange.

22psi... thats not that low to be honest. What oil do you have in it?
