I have heard the vht stuff is pretty good, there is also a guide on build threads.com guy had developed a method that seems to have worked very well.

That looks fantastic - what a great job.
My engine bay looks horrible, the sound proofing foam is what makes it look the worst, looking at all of these pictures it looks like you guys have just removed it and treated / painted the metal in the engine bay, is that correct and is that the best way to do an engine bay? Or have you replaced the sound proofing?
I'd appreciate the advice.
Thanks

Not at all - you can get the engine out in a day easy.

Lose the sound deadening water sponge ;) It causes more rust problems than it does at deadening sound

i would say loose the sound deadening but its your choice prone to make the bulkhead rust probly other surrounding areas is well :)

Remove the sound proofing in the engine compartment and install Dynamat on the inside.

Shukran - By inside do you mean in the seating area against the bulkhead?

Yes he means inside the cabin.
If you install a CLD (Dynamat etc) against the fire wall from below the upper dash rail to the floor foot well, then a layer of CCF (closed cell foam) followed by a layer of MLV (mass loaded vinyl) or similar you will reduce the noise hugely compared to the oem open cell foam sponge from the engine bay. You can even get heat reflective adhesive mat like dynamat for inside the engine bay if you want.
