It might catch on but probably on fire.

They'll be replaced by nice steel brackets eventually I promise.

Cheers. Cool stuff. Yeah it's been installed for just over two years now. I believe it is running around 110bhp at around 6000RPM. It's been pretty reliable though after sorting a few initial teething problems. It's fairly standard to be honest, it's a 1275cc Rover Mini Sprite. It was one of the very last carb Mini's...

The engine internals are completely standard as is the head except for some 1:5 roller tip rockers and double valve springs. It has a HIF44 carb with a little electric heater that I installed in the air filter to prevent icing. It has a Minispares 2 core radiator and a 82degree thermostat. Had to sort out an additional breather running from the rocker cover too. Otherwise it's standard. I have been tempted to change the head and cam but to be honest it goes really well so until I have any problems I think I'll just keep it as it is.

Good to hear it runs reliable, mines nearly done now, possibly this weekend. do you have any trouble starting it? i have a heater element in mine too, alough its not wired in yet.

Sorry about the late response, is yours done now? What spec and performance have you got? Not really, it usually requires a bit of choke to get going though, it's only ever a problem if it is very damp but it's kept in a garage so that isn't really a problem. Ah cool stuff, the element is a worthy addition.

Cheers,

Jon.

Yeah its all done now. going on the dyno next week so not sure on performance yet, its a 1275 cooper block, Kent 276 cam, and a little bit of head work on a MK3 cooper s head. what sort of mpg are you getting from it?

Ah cool stuff, well keep me posted, it'd be cool to hear how you get on. I get around 26mpg. I've worked it out on loads of occasions and that seems the standard really, I haven't managed to better that.

Cheers,

Jon.

Do the suck through superchargers work ok? What do they run like?

Yeah they do, they do require careful set up though to get them working at their best. I supercharged mine over 2 years ago now and haven't had too many problems really. If you are running a carb and a distributor, there is sometimes a little bit of bogging down if you apply too much throttle at low revs, and if it's a bit cold you can have a problem with ice forming in the throat of the carb (can be sorted out with a little heating element) but otherwise it's great.

Cheers,

Jon.

I love the idea of putting lots of chrome on show. My son and I have stripped a 1994 Mini Sprite 1275 down. Once it's reconditioned I want to make it look stunning. Where do you get those chrome bits - like the coil cover?

I don't think that question was aimed at me but there's a company called http://www.smiffysbits.co.uk/ who sell loads of polished stainless steel bits for engine bay styling. I've used these a few times and they are great. I believe Minispares sell a polished coil cover. There's loads of bits and pieces around.

Cheers,

Jon.

Hi,

Where are you getting all the chrome bits from? Particularly the coil cover? I want to chrome as much as I can :-)

This is the finished kit.

If there is enough interest I will make an inlet and have a limited run of copies made for people who want them.
I'm not looking to proffit so all costs would be shared by each unit 9more ordered the cheaper they will be)
Let me know guys =]

The induction bot (plenum) is from an Austin Maestro and the tube and filter are just generic induction parts.

The tube and filter you could get from ebay or Demon-Tweeks but the plenum might take a bit more looking. I managed to get one on ebay but it was the first one I'd found anywhere in 6 months.

A before and after of mine, still a bit to do and yes I know the ram air silicone hose does bugger all but I had it left over from an old car :shy:
I recently put the standard airbox back on and drilled a few holes in it and put a K&N element filter in and I am sure it feels a lot livelier.
Anyway here you go.
