This may just be a matter of opinion but what would people recommend. The minisport alloy caliper kit or the minispares one. Will be putting them on 8.4" vented disks.

Thanks

just so you know the minisport callipers need 7.9 inch discs so if you did get those you would either need to buy new discs or get yours turned down to fit.

Mini sports seem easier to fit with vented disks as the minispares ones need spacers. How well do the minisport ones perform. Also they cost a lot less.

I spoke to minisport today and they said calipers are good and they have not had complaints and that they use them. I asked them about modification to rear cylinders due to increased caliper size at front and that extra fluid space affecting the brake balance but they said it would be ok and no mods to the back was needed. What are peoples opinions on this.

Thanks

probably not the best place to go for advice! if i was selling Asbestos i'd be telling customers it was good stuff aswell!

not that i've heard bad things about them, but, i've gone for the kad ones, failing that minispares, failing both them go for the minisport ones.

Where did you purchase the kad ones from. I know minispeed do a kit with discs. Do the kad ones take standard drive flanges as the minisport one take metro ones. I know they are the bes but they are expensive as are the mini spares ones.

basically keep your eyes peeled!

I know they may not be the cheapest, but if theres one thing i've learnt, spend more on stopping than going faster!

You realy do get what you pay for! if you're after a good middle ground, go for minispares ones!

i think they can be used with none vented discs and standard flanges???

Thanks for the reply. What did you do about the rear brakes when you put the kad ones on the front. Did you need to adjust the balance.

Thanks

I recently bought a Mini with Minisport Alloy calipers already fitted. Just the other night I had to bleed to whole system ( nothing to do with the calipers ) but I was dissapointed to see how poor a fit the nipples are in the alloy. I only released the nipple by about one flat and the fluid preferred to work it's way out round the threads rather than the easibleed pipe. Tried undoing just another flat and it was even worse. There was a post recently about someone also having issues with a stripped out thread on a set

Maybe mine are a one off or maybe the previous owner has somehow worn the thread a bit but i'd be patient and find out all you can before handing over your cash. I'm probably going to replace mine sometime anyway as I intend to fit reverse rims.

Just my experience and opinion.

I have Minisport 7.9" calipers and non vented disks on my mini. No problems with fitting, plumbing up (goodridge braided hoses) or bleeding, and the pedal is nice and firm. They stop well but mine are grooved which make them slightly noisy.

I was originally going to fit vented disks and I quote from their email "The original standard solid disc drive flange will be OK."
So your post above may be misleading, or you may have been given the wrong info, maybe email minisport to check for sure.

It seems a shame the Mini Sport bits get a slating on here I am happy with mine. But I do understand people have had problems with their service.

However with all that said, If I wanted 4pots to fit 8.4" I would have gone for Mini Spares, unfortuantely they dont do 7.9" to fit under my 10" wheels.

I've had minisport 7.5" 4 pots (non-vented) for nearly 8 years and not had a problem with them at all ( well apart from breaking a bleed nipple ), at the time minispares were still selling sandcast alloy instead of cnc machined billet, and KAD were well expensive.

I-B-Quick its a possibility that you may have one of the older sets fitted to your mini, as the new sets dont have the bleed nipples screwed right into the alloy, and instead are screwed into a stainless threaded piece which is screwed into the calliper itself to stop the 'chewing' of the thread's.
Mini Sport were aware that they had problems with these in the past, these problems have now been rectified and i can assure you that the callipers produced now are to the highest standard's.

zeroasylum i think you have misunderstood what Mini Sport have said to yourself, the callipers have all been designed to use and run on standard Mini hubs and drive flanges (or the alloy hubs/flanges)
