Hi,
I am from Brighton UK but have lived in Norway since 1971, Iam about to replace some rusted metal on my 1971 Mini and have noticed that not all replacement body panels are made from decent mild steel, some are absolutely abysmal and do not weld easily. My choice is Herritage because they have always been easy to weld after the black is cleaned off.
During my hunt for articles on which replacement body panels were best I found TMF and so here I am.
By the way: Which body panels are best when it comes to weldability?
I do have many years experience with welding so I do know when steel doesn't weld nicely, some replacement panels have too much regenerated steel in them (too much old c*ap).

The best panels are Heritage and M Machines own pressed items.
Be aware though that M Machine also supply Magnum and Heritage. You can find out what is what if you place an order with them when you ring them. Doreen normally answers and is a font of knowledge. I can thoroughly recommend their own pressed inner sills to first flute and their outer short sills.
Heritage is more expensive, their panels tend to fit better first time round BUT some of them don't and will need work to get a perfect finish.

Thanks Neil
I am not too worried about tweaking panels to fit if the metal is good like on the Heritage panels that I have come across. I wont leave myself open by saying which panels I have found are poor quality.
Smaller patch panels I usualy form myself but a whole floor section is way beyond my staying power
Again thanks
Tony

Hi, I'm Gary and live in Heysham, close to Morecambe. I found this forum on the mini websites as I've been looking for some spares for my daughters (Emma) Mini, she drives a 1995 Rover Mini 'Tartan', ex-import from Japan. It's an amazing car and she loves it to bits, I'm the one who drives it occasionally, usually when it needs something doing to it!! I drive a 1960 Austin Healey 'Frogeye' Sprite.

I live in the US and am a former Mini owner (67 Cooper S) and now drive a 62 Austin Healey Sprite in SCCA road racing. The Mini contiues to fascinate me as I think it is more highly developed than the Sprite. I make some special parts for the A series engines which are shown on my website: www.Britcarfixes.com.

Hi, I'm from Cumbria and found theminiforum.co.uk almost immediately after buying my first classic Mini - as soon as I started searching for answers to my many questions online, The Mini Forum came straight up! And thank goodness it did. Incredible resource.
