A good dollop of brush on rust eater may do if you've got rid of the thick 'n crusty stuff. A few sharp hammer taps sometimes shakes the crusty bits off too.

Oh it's been walloped within an inch of it's life. :( It's the annoying little pitted bits that remain that take time. Might try the rust-muncher that I have in the cellar on the more awkward areas.

The shell is FINALLY ready for the bodyshop (or as ready as I can get it, anyway  \).

Glass out.
Rubber trim out.
Grommets (sp?) out.
Handbrake out.
Heater out.
Engine bay ancilliaries out - all them funny little plate things... ..clutch & brake reservoirs..everyt'ing.
Fuel line off.
Brake line off.
Oh and I found a hole in the bulkhead. :turtle: Looks like it originated in the factory. >_<

I'm leaving the lower dash in & just masking over it.

Posted Image

And doors will just come off as a whole unit & follow the shell down to the bodyshop.

There's a waiting list so I dunno if we'll stick to our planned timeline.

Well done! I'm not a fan of bumper bars on the round nose but they actually look quite good on the clubby!

:turtle: grabs socket set and heads out the door : >_<

Went over to the see my mini men last night. It's going to be about 8 weeks before Tommy gets shotblasted, then it'll be Christmas before he's repanelled & resprayed. (They've got Tommy Steele's GT to do first, a mk3 cooper s & a brand new shell Posted Image). However, if it's all going too slowly, I can use a different bodywork dude in L'head that W&P know well.

Now the question is how far to go with stripping the engine? It's quite sweet as it is, only 40k..... Posted Image Posted Image What do you people reckon? >_<

juju, strip it, look at the components, make sure they are serviceable, no excess play etc, then boltit together clean, painted and new gaskets. would be shame too have a pristine shell and an engine that may or may not break down.

I meant just to clean it ploply, not to give it more poke. I wants original, isn't it.
So, just take it apart & clean it then...

take it apart, clean everything, check everything, maybe find out what options there were on the engine from BL if you want original and some poke.

obviously if it needs a rebore, then its gonna have too have one.

nice scrub and clean, bang it back together for a ncie shiny original bit of kit ;D

As Wolfy says, you should take it apart and check everything :dontgetit: Then you know when you put the engine back in its all good! :) And you dont want to have to take it again once its back in! ;D

Sorry Juju, yes I ment pretty much as Wolfys_mini suggests. :dontgetit:

Matilda's already a stunner, although I'm sure if you still have any sanity and money left you could always do it. :)

;D
