I have a stupid question... well actually lots of stupid questions, but just one for JuJu. :)

What colour is/was/should your engine be? I'm guessing black??

I need to work out what colour to paint my engine for my fake GT. That's if I ever get round to freeing him from his prison.

Leyland Black. Just like Black Black. :)

I like stupid questions. More please.

OK. Why do I have a metro van sat in my garage instead of my second clubby??? :X

I can't work it out...

because either some 'orrid person swapped one for t'other or you've been a bit of a divvie. :gimme:

That's correct. I'm a divvie.

It actually has a fair amount to do with left over bits from the MG metro turbo we broke up earlier in the year, this, my stag do in Amsterdam and how we get there...

:) Hi Juju

Keep up the good work, it's looking scary but with those WP peeps on hand you can't go too far wrong. Can't wait to see it progress to outshine that other one you posted. Best wishes xx

That sounds like a challenge to me! Let's see how much I can b*gger it up this weekend, shall we? :)

Will do Sazal! :teehee:

Today I got the steering column out. Then the steering rack.

Posted Image

I've undone the clutch & brake reservoirs, taken out the accelerator pedal & cable & tried to get the pedal box out, but I've not managed to work out the clevis pin through the bulkhead yet....(I got a bit grumpy so I gave up) ;D :withstupid:

Poor Matilda has to carry all Tommy's manky bits home.

Posted Image

I thought I'd have to do two trips, but it appears that you can fit a full set of wheels, two front seats, a steering column & a steering rack inside an Mpi's cabin, with plenty space left over for yourself. :o

I've just been out & bought wire wool, a wirebrush, primer & hammerite. Guess which bits I'm cleaning & making shiny tomorrow? :dontgetit: :)

The first of many.
Wiper motor has come up well. :D

Posted Image

Steering rack is proving a bit of an arse :D Still got loads to shift before I take the boots off & see what ickiness lies beneath.

These end bits are looking a bit rust-eaten, despite the scrubbing. Do I replace them or keep going & then primer/paint? :P

Posted Image

I'm off to Wickes to get a dremel & some gloves.

How clean do these bits need to be before priming & painting? :o

What can a lazy person get away with? ;)

I ain't never done this before, but if each part needs this amount of pulverising with a black and decker we'll have reached the next Mass Extinction Event before this car's back together. :D

Not even a Mini can be so unreliable to justify carrying all those spares!

As long as yer bits are rust 'n grease free the paint will stick. I wouldn't worry too much about the track rod ends as you will most probably be chucking them in a year or two when they get wobbly. I know a lazy botcher who used heat shrink on his rusty driveshafts to beautify 'em without scrubbing.

It's bloody knackering, that's what it is. And annoying for my new neighbours..... ;) :o

Gah. :)
More pulverising required then :D . How much will a shot blaster set me back?

I cant believe you put those rusty parts in the mpi

Soz. I got black horrid grease on her nice white headling too. :o  :D

Woah great going Juju! Must takes loads of patience.

Ed used his sandblasting cabinet a while ago on Vern and it wasn't really quick but the results were ace, made light work of his flanges :P It was very much if not the same as this one here It is one of the smaller ones though so it might be worth checking the length of the steering rack and owt else you need to shot blast :D

:(

A good dollop of brush on rust eater may do if you've got rid of the thick 'n crusty stuff. A few sharp hammer taps sometimes shakes the crusty bits off too.

Yerp, patience has never really been my forté. Channelling white fury through brute force does, however, come quite naturally. :goaway: :D

So it's 95 quid for the cabinet on its own? :( Then compressor & everytink else on top.................erm.........................no. Perhaps not. Fanks anyway.

Does Vern mind other people touching his flanges? :dontgetit:
