He's looking all naked!!! I'm really enjoying seeing this project come along ;D

Not quite nakie...he's still in his Y-fronts...........uuuh...............sexy boy.......... :teehee:

The bumper bolts might fre with some 'freeze & release' spray from Halfords or motor factors.

Although it didn't help me! I had a similar problem with my clubby bumpers - the previous owner had forced metric bolts in and there was no way they would shift - they just twisted the brackets. I ended up getting the bolts wound out a little until I could get a hacksaw blade between bumper and car and then cut the bolt. However as you are respraying I would simply grind the head off the bolt from under the wing then tackle the remains once the bumper was off the car (you might find then that the heat from grinding will have freed the threads).

Cheers Mister Graeme! I've dumped a litre or so of penetrator (I love that word  ) on each side, but it's not unseizing. Might have to resort to the angle grinder plan - there's no way I can get a hacksaw blade in there at the mo, and as you say, the brackets are now just bent. :dontgetit:

Good luck wiv it!

I think mine's going to be a "complete rebuild" rather than a "mini engined project" at this rate.  :o Ho hum.

Notes to Juju:

1. When you take parts out of your car do NOT under any circumstances go jabbing around with a screwdriver to reveal the Crumbly Demons of Orange, or you may end up finding out that you have to replace the floor of the boot too. ;D

2. Do NOT keep changing your mind about shotblasting vs. panel-by-panel rebuild. :-

3. Do NOT wear a skirt to work on your car. They are very uncomfortable & awkward to shove down your overalls. ;D

4. Wear rubber gloves.

Took fuel tank out again. (In, out, in, out, shake it all about).

Realised Tommy's bum is rotten. I think I better spend his shotblast fund on new panels. :-

The GT is now on the waiting list to go into the bodyshop. By the sounds of it, there are about 5 other cars/shells booked in before him, so I should get him stripped down in time.

No shotblasting of the interior. We're going to go for a "sensitive" restoration now.

The inetrior of the cabin doesn't really need respraying (just the rear bins, and that's only a small hand job... ), but he's having a whole new floor, so one quick question (please): is it worth taking the dash & clocks out, or will I get enougjh of an idea about the state of his front via the engine bay & windscreen out? :D

Think i would, around the fresh air vents is a fave rot spot. just removing the dash cards 'n clocks should do it. Also gives you the chance to prettify or replace the cards there almost guaranteed to be a bit dog eared.

But will I not see that through the engine bay, or from underneath?
I'm reluctant to start tugging out his furnishings because they're in such good nick, including the door cards.....

(plobly just being lazy, ackchewlee......... )

You'd get a better look from the inside, the vent pipes, underseal 'n years of road gunge under the wings obscure your view. Just pop out the passenger side air vent to get a bit of a peek - you'll be very lucky if they don't need any attention, not too bad it's out of sight any repairs can be pretty workman like.

Mine was all rusty at the end of the bottom dash rail wher it is welsed up next to the A pillar. It's a common area on clubbys, so definatly worth a look. Also worth checking where teh door check straps poke through and around the inside of the fresh air vents.

Better to take it of now and have a look than for it all to drop of from rot when you get it back on the road.

love the ram bar juju

Thanks very much, but it's bent as an Old Compton Street Barman & beyond repair.

The replacement nudge bar arrived today! (Thanks to that lovely Mr GraemeC for spotting it on ebay :D ).

41 quid including postage & packing has got Tommy a brand new nudge bar that has never been fitted. I unwrapped it as soon as I got it & ta daaaaaaaaa :D , there is a Wood & Pickett sticker on the front!!

(I squeaked & did a little dance round the kitchen :- ).

Not much progress on Tommy today. Going to drop out the front subframe with engine still attached (eventually), so just disconnecting things from the block. Carburettor came off (again), air intakes removed, slave cylinder disconnected, and everything else squirted with WD40 because I can't get the nuts undone. :D So, went home, ate some cheese & tried to wash & wax Matilda in the rain.

I've found little chunks of sponge wedged up the screen pillars around there, god knows what BL intended them to do, but they're very effective at spawning rust patches

Yer, with some of it you can understand its purpose (preventing vibration, soundproofing & such like), but is it all really necessary?
