Haynes manuals don't give you a step by step engine build guide. Unless they now publish a specific engine assembly manual. It won't be covered in the owners workshop manuals, they only list repair procedures. They are very helpful manuals to have when you are building an engine but don't have a full step by step. A few engine tuners have such a manual available that they publish themselves. Mini Sport do one but I haven't read it and can't say how good it is. If it tells you how to assemble an engine to Mini Sport quality though it may be best avoided!

(please stop linking to that illegal copy of the Haynes Manual on this forum)

Hmm, not sure that Haynes would be too happy with a pdf of their manual being linked on this forum, never mind being hosted for all to see on someone's website. It's a copyright issue surely? :dontgetit:

EDIT: Yep, I've taken the link down, I know you're only trying to help, but it's this site that could potentially get in trouble with da law!

I already have the service & repair manual, but it's not very good engine assembly wise.. it has no pictures etc i'm sure haynes must do i guide, my mate had a haynes manual for his mk2 escort which covered everything you need for re-building the engine?! with big pictures and very detailed but whether it was in assembly order i can't remember

Is it worth getting the workshop manual? but i noticed it's only for 59' - 69'

i have a copy of the older haynes, yellowy green colour, which does 100+ images of the strip and rebuild process black and white but still good as!

either that or the 1380 engine builder dvd is supposed to be good!
