Hi Everybody

I need some help, last night i attempted to re-fit my transfer case, however I found it extremely hard to get on... im not sure if there is a method... its as if the bearings wont slip in to the re-sess's... ive tried greasing them up, and using the nuts to apply even p ressure. ivetried wacking it with a hammer all to no avail.

all ive managed to do, is Knacker the bottom bearing, on the outside of the bottom (or lowest) dropgear, im not sure what this is called,

its either called a 'spiget gear' or first motion 'shock' bearing, im unsure

either way, ive managed to locate one and am collecting it at lunch time, but I hear removing the 'race' is a right game. Somebody I know told me there is a video on here somewhere on how to remove it (involving a blowtorch), ive searched but cannot find it.

so, i have two questions

1.) can anybody give me the correct method of fitting the transfer case
2.) can anybody tell me the location of the said video that explains how to remove the said bearing

many thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

i take it the caseing in which came off the gearbox is going back on and your not fitting one the you do not know where it came from.. if u are doing that then u mite b fitting the A series case to a A+ set of drop gears and bearings. The bearing youve knackered will just sit inside the race on the opposite type that you are using. i.e if its a A+ bearing and your fitting a A series case it will sit inside the race about 2 mm) just incase you didnt know...

Yes it will fit but it won't work very well for very long. Mixing bearing components is amazingly poor engineering practise, bearings are manufactured as matched sets with the rollers from a set being tollerance matched to the races that came with it. It really isn't hard to swap the outer race and do the job properly.
