I just wrote out a long article about k-series being the dogs, but it timed me out and I can't be bothered to write it out again.

1400 = 100bhp

head gaskets are only a problem with k-series if you don't regalarly check and change coolant.
And as long as you change belts every 60k they are solid.

Their following is enourmous due to being £50 engines to power a kit car very fast. Therefore upgrades are mass produced so are readily available and relatively cheap.

Lets face it, you should be able to see why people love K-series as it's for the same reasons that you love the A-series

head gaskets are common to go around the 40,000 mile mark, meaning in most cases new engine

LOL, a new engine?! Are you thinking because a £50 new engine is cheaper than replacing a head gasket?

Without wishing to start an arguement, but how can you say the K-series engine is poor ? It is one of THE TOP 4-cylinder engines. If you read the reports about Rover, its the only reason people want to buy it. Even today the engine is world class.

Regarding head gaskets, its only the V6 you need to worry about. Our K-series metro did well over 100k miles without any trouble - we even gave it away to a friend who continued to use it for a couple of years. In the end, it was the bodywork sent it to the grave not the engine.

Not a bad 'box either. Peugot IIRC.

Mini_Resto vs the world (take 2) :lol:

Anyway, my mothers rover is on 116,000 miles and has never had a headgasket change. Brilliant little engine is the 'K'

Mini_resto you make me laugh, ok it's not quite a vtec system but its an aweful lot better than the A-series. However i obviously love the A-series but i dream of the reliability the K can provide. If it's so bad why did it replace the A-series and was it still being used in new cars up until a few days ago?

Oh and i hope ur Dad isn't still involved in Rover work, could cause problems.

yeh iv got that DVD too! the K series is fine as long as u go carefull with cooling! there are alot of warnings out, so a K series with an uprated cooling system is essential for larg power, but works really well
