Gonna buy a cheapo run around k-series metro and use it's engine and box when the shell rusts through. However:

I know the GTA has the k-series 1400 16valve twin cam.
Does the GTI have the same engine? I know it is a 1400 16valve, but is it the same engine as the twin cam?

Any help appreciated

Yea, should be.

I was looking into buyin a rover metro to replace me mini, most of the older ones are 8v single cam. I know that most Gsi models have the twin cam in.

Really nice engine, 103 bhp standard, had one in my last car(rover 414, bubble shape) and there quite quick for what they are, especially once the power kicks in after 4500rpm upto 6500rpm. renowned for head gaskets but there an easy job.

Easy. Either use metro subframe (naff suspension) or modify mini subframe (sexy suspension). There are a few firms who sell k-series conversion kits.

I have now found out that 1400 16v are all twin cam. The Gti has MPI the GTA has SPI. each with their own pro's and cons

The basic engines the same, just different inlet manifold, loom ecu etc. i believe. Throttle bodies would be the dream way to do it, if only money grew on trees!!

Cant the metro subframe be modified to fit mini suspension? anythings possible if your competent with a welder.

Not too sure about that, Al. It's only the later GTi's that have an MPi engine. Older ones like This are SPi.

Cool cheers for that.
I am looking into to one at the moment but will check manna hut out otherwise. I have been there a few times because i'ts not too far from me. I bought a metro 1275 dizzy, fully re-conditioned with new points and condenser for £3.75 from there!

I saw that one on there. It got edited and had (Spoof Item) on the listing. Weird.
Anyway, I know that some earlier cars were 1400 8v and have also found out that some older Gti's had spi but they can be converted easily.
Thanks for your help everyone.

K series is a poo engine? what planet are you on man? if its so poo then why is it used in so many kit cars? let alone the old lotus elise? power gains are easy from it too!
