Has anyone used Autoglass and did it cost you anything?

I have a chip in my windscreen (damnit I sound like someone off their adverts, :P )... I've had a repair done to the company van before and when I asked them to repair it they asked if the damage was "less in area than the size of a £1 coin" - which the chip in my windscreen is...

Should I contact my insurer first to see if it'll be free and not affect my no claims? Never had to do anything like this on my own car...

It depends on your insurer. I don't think it affects your NCB anymore, but some will charge you a £50 or £60 excess.

always contact your insurance first. depends on who you are with as to who they use, as they dont all use autoglass. if you arrange something and your insurance haven't ok'd it they can charge you the full ammount, no questions asked.

I'm getting a new windscreen on wednesday through RAC, as the chip repair autoglass did 4 years ago failed and now its turned into a crack.

Apparently the autoglass lifetime guarantee is only a guarantee of workmanship, and anyway if the repair doesn't fail in the first year or so it wont, and so they wont honour the guarantee after that??

i'm confused?

Its normally cheaper to buy a mini windscreen yourself and do it.

Failing that if its nt a mini, then most insurance companies cover windscreens, the excess is only payable if you have the screen replaced, and normally free for repairs.

I've had a fair few replaced in the last couple of years, it doesn't affect your no claims bonus, or at least they claim it doesn't, but you will find more and more insurance companies ask when quoting t renewal time if you have had any windscreen claims

This reminds me I need to get the screen replaced inthe luton this year, as it has 6 stone chips in it so far lol

Today I called my insurance company (for some reason they wanted me to confirm my DOB, Address, Postcode, email address, mobile number, daytime contact number :w00t: ) and they put me through to a Glass place... to cut a long story short, I can get the chip repaired by Nationwide Windscreens, and as I'm fully comp, there's no excess to pay ;D

Only problem is their hours are Mon - Fri 9:30am till 3pm  so I will have to take an afternoon off work or something to get it arranged.. not prepared to leave the car keys under a plant pot in the garden like the guy suggested :D

Sometimes you get companies doing free windscreen repair outside Halfords and some supermarkets.

Night be worth popping into your local Halfrauds and asking them if they ever have the RAC / Autoglass down offering that service and if they will be back anytime soon?

I have yeah but shes about 85 years old and mad, she might take the car for a drive ;D lol only joking, I might ask her but I dont like being a pain all the time. Think I will do it though them though (the people who the insurers use) to make life easier. And it's all free, and they come out to wherever you are

Thinkn you should arrange for it to happen at work and take your car that day! that way you don't lose holiday, don't annoy your neighbour and it'll be done and dusted

That would be ok if I didn't work mobile and didn't have a company vehicle which I take home
