Did you do the gearbox rebuild yourself? I need to replace the baulk rings in mine and I'm wondering how you found refurbing yours.
I'm jealous of all your freshly machined faces.

Nope, i must admit the gearbox is the only thing i didn't do.
A friend of mine did it for me!

I've watched the ultimate mini a-series builder dvd and it looks relatively straight forward, not even that much to replace really as long as none of your gears have less teeth than someones gran.
I'll be popping in a center oil pickup, but thats about the only mod I'm planning down there.

Firstly, here's a random pic:

Who ever built this engine the first time round (after the machine work) was having a laugh with tap & die set.
The bolts holding the gearbox to the block have been taped out to 5/8 UNF, they're 1/4 UNF standard.
Anyway, got that sorted, and this is how it stands.

Nice random assortment of bolts to hold her on, looks weird, but it's solid. I had to drill out the gearbox casing so the bigger bolts would fit up through!
So i had my flywheel and back plate faced at the engineers:

Don't they look nice?
All in vain though, I got the transfer casing on to and flywheel/clutch in only to discover that some *melon* has tapped the crank, so the flywheel bolt i sourced doesn't fit, so i've had to purchase an original tap to re-tap the crank, in the hope that it can be salvaged.
ARGH!!
Lesson: Never buy just a block, even if it comes with the crank, pistons, cam, flywheel etc. Especially if it's been taken apart and the bolts put somewhere so safe that no one will ever find them, it'll just give you a *melonsing* headache, and take years off your life. This engine should have been finished a week ago.

The engine is a bit ratty looking, but it's what is inside that counts!
