I was watching 'Vroom vroom' on sky three the other night and they were doing some autograss racing and wouldnt mind giving it a blast myself if it's as cheap as they were saying.
What i was wondering was if anyone off this forum has ever tried it or still doing it?
The costs involved, etc.
Any info welcomed!!!

I raced Class 1 on and off since 1993 until about two years ago when I finally sold the car. If you just want to have fun and enjoy blasting round the tracks then yes it is cheap but if you want to be competitve at regional and national level then even in Class 1 you need to have deep pockets. The top engine builders will charge you £1500 for a race wining engine !
My old car !

JORDAN ! YOU SPELT TONGHAM WRONG lol ! yeh i race at tongham motor club as part of SEGTO, regaring lower budget groups class 1/prod a class 2/3? prod b i believe that its better to race with segto as your allowed to do more to your cars - but its brilliant fun but once you start chasign championships - wave goodbye to your pocket money !Been doing it a few seasons and its deffinately worth a go its amazing fun

A couple of races???
Where is the nearest track to birmingham? Is it nottingham or is there one closer?
Does the roll cage have to be a 'proper' one or can it be a home made jobbie?
Do you have to wear a proper race suit or can you just wear a coverall?
So many questions!!!!!

A couple of races???
Mine has done 2 seasons but needs lots of new panels this year and a freshen up of the engine
Where is the nearest track to birmingham? Is it nottingham or is there one closer?
Not sure but nottingham is a very well run track
Does the roll cage have to be a 'proper' one or can it be a home made jobbie?
Home made is the only way but make sure its done properly, not a fan of the square tube ones, reckon round tube is much safer. Some of the homemade cages scare me!!
Do you have to wear a proper race suit or can you just wear a coverall?
No overalls are fine, but it does make you feel like a proper racing driver if you wear all the gear!

Does it have to be any particular size, ie, a mini or can you have something bigger like an XR2i etc?

ok ive not raced it all that time but i do think ours might last longer than the autograss cars.. untill you bonce it off the armco and we do get a bit more freedom spec wise.. adustable suspension.. negative camber (lots on the passenger side) and we can do more to our engines too.. where as class 1 minis are as standard as you can get i think.. as for cages i too have seen some scary looking efforts! gotta full FIA one in mine.. dont think i'd even get in a car with just a box cage

Your mini doesnt look too battle scarred at all - obviously not a fan of the armco!!!!
I think the best way for me to get into it would be class 1, to get a feel for things before moving up a group.
Is there anyone in the birmingham region that does class 1???
I wouldnt even get into a car with a homemade roll cage - you never know just how safe and well built they actually are.
