As the title really...

i have had someone crash into the back of the mini....

my insurance company have tried every single trick in the trade to get quids in from the other insurance company.. even to the point of trying to tell me my insurance was void?

They are now claiming that my car is worth 2000... less the modifications. "we as a company dont insure modifications, so our settlement figure isnt inclusive of modifications"

What a load of cobblers....

The other party have agreed liability so my insurance company shouldnt really be all that involved with the deciding of how much my car is worth. In my eyes i should be able to buy a like for like car?

just warning any of those who are under their partner companies... like diamond insurance, confused.com etc etc. they own all of them.

Just a warning :shy:

If your insurance company have been reading comments you've been posting, this is a great way to charm them into increasing their valuation of your car!

Don`t go with ELEPHANT either. Complete bunch of :shy:.

To cut it short, I was in bed car was on the road outside house as had nowhere else to park. Joy rider hit 4 cars in our road. Elephant wouldn`t pay out till they had seen Police report to find out responcabiltiy! AS I said to them the car wasn`t parked in the middle of the road and I was in BED so how could I have ever caused the accident. But they wouldn`t budge, took them 8 months to cough up and not enough for the car either. Plus even though it was only 6 months through the premium couldn`t get anything back either.

NEVER AGAIN

END rant.

You'd be better off if your insurance was void Matt. If your were insured 3rd party you'd have to claim off the other driver without Admiral being involved at all and you can do the same even if you are fully comp.

If your car has undeclared modifications then they do have some case but it still doesn't effect the above even an uninsured chavvy scrote would be entitled to damages.

I don't think you can blame insurers for being cautious over paying out until they have proof of liability, which normally means involving the Police if it isn't between 2 insured drivers who have filled in claims forms.

My wife was with Churchill as here 30 was written off in the same acident as my Beetle whe I was with ELEPHANT. Her claim was delt with and she had the money within 3 months and they were knowlegdable about what a 30 was. They offered her more than we were expecting too.

All insurance companies draw you in with there adverts and you only find out what they are really like when you have to make a claim. It`s like when they say you are garraanted a courtasy car! That`s twoodle too. The car comes from the body repair shop and they will only give you one if your car is repairable. If not no car as they aren`t going to make any money from you, as they aren`t going to get paid not to fix a car.

Im slowly writing all these insurence companys down on my black list. My first ever insurers where with NIC throught a broker. A 7.5 tonn TNT lorry went into the side of me on a roundabout, I claimed and TNT didnt accept liabillity, so I decided to cancel the claim to keep my No-claims bonus. Only to find my renewal note didnt include it, I rang up and asked why and they said I had claimed! But no money was ever envolved, therefore I should have the No-Claims. They kept stalling me, giving me excuses like "they guy who deals with it isnt here and will contact you", this went on for about a month. I ended up just writing their phone number down for proof of no-claims with the next insurers and its been fine since. Oh and Hastings Direct gave me a really good quote for my 2nd year, I took it out, only to have them phone me 3 months down the line and tell me their computers gave out the wrong quotes and they had to cancel, then they refunded my 2 times by accident!

Horse, bolted, stable, door...but...
Unfortunately, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. The cheapest quote is not usually the best deal. Always check out the small print, declare modifications and get a written, agreed value. That will cost more but worth it should you ever need to claim. There will be glitches in any company but I have found HIC totally fabulous when it came to sorting out my claim and subsequent insurance. Costs a bit more but worth it in the end.

I'm having much the same problem with Direct Line. I have taken them to the financial services ombudsman. As soon as I filed a case with the ombudsman they upped their offer from £1000 to £1205. I have time on my hands however, so I'm going to try to get the £2000 I believe I deserve. From now on I am only ever going to have agreed value insurance on my mini. If the 'book price' is about what your car is worth, then maybe Direct Line are ok, but not for minis.

At the end of the day, these are companies and they will try anything within the law to make money, and that means not paying out more than they absolutely have to. My brother used to work for a big insurance company in Australia, and when I told him about a case where the company he worked for was screwing around one of my friends (accusing him of fraud even though the police report came down clearly on his side) my brother said to take it immediately to *insert name of appropriate television program* (A Current Affair in the Australian case). The ONLY thing these companies are afraid of is bad publicity, and even then it has to be on a fairly large scale.

My 2.35p worth (inclusive of VAT)
