hey

sorry if this has been covered before, but i did do a search and couldn't find anything!

i need to replace the points on my mini while i'm at uni, but like an idiot i left my manuel at home. can someone please tell me what the gap between the points should be on an mg metro 1275. i'd do it on the dwell angle but dont have the equipment with me!.

cheers

I don't have a manual at the ready but most Lucas distributors I've ever worked with use a points gap of 0.015" or 0.016". Anything close to that will get you going and on the road. A lot of the old-timers I know (older than me) talk about setting the gap on the side of the road using a match-book cover as a feeler gauge. If that's close enough... I'm sure with feeler gauges you'll do much better.

calibrated cigarette papers is what you need ;D

14 to 16 thou is good enough, of if you do get your hands on a dwell meter, 54 +- 5

They'd be the most useful figures if your Spanish friend is fitting them.

I knew it was too weak a joke but couldn't stop myself ;D - "i left my manuel at home"
every chance you're not the only one with metric feelers Adam, so it was good advice :w00t:

Handy for me, I don't have an imperial feeler blade set. Only have a metric one.
