the raised clocks bit is made from timber and the finish out the outer face is a laminate of sorts with a squirt o9f laquer to make it all shiny and nice.

Yep thats how shiney it is, honest!!
Seriously i don't think that it's lacquered any more than the standard burr walnut dash that was in the car but being a dark colour it gives the impression that it is.

I might be being a fool, but it looks pretty much black to me in your pic :ermm:

hmm...I can't decide whether I like that amount of shinyness!! I mean, I like shiny things! :) but there's shiny and then there's SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINY!!!

Essentially yes it's a black dash (charcoal is vitually black) but it only looks shinier than the standard burr walnut one because of it's dark colour. An object dark and lacquered will reflect more than an object light and lacquered and it's this reflection that makes it look really shiny.
Heres another photo:

Now imagine that the seats are black leather instead of cream leather, the amount of reflection would be reduced (if you get my drift). Plus the camera flash makes anything look shiny aswell.
Sitting behind the wheel it's not as shiny as the pictures make out.
