I have an engine and the number is 99HB81P
I have another engine and the number of that is 99H997P

Im just wondering what the Bhp of each engine is and what the 'P' stands for at the end.

Tom.

They're both 998cc A+ engines produced between 1985 and 1989. They both produced around 40 BHP when new. The P is simply part of the engine assmebly code and to my knowledge means nothing in particular. The whole code (which is the engine number without the serial number added) is a reference to the exact components of the power unit as in the type of gears, gear casing, pistons, rods, head etc. that were used and which supplier made any externally supplied parts but what the actual individual letters mean changes from one engine generation to the next so they aren't really important on their own. Are you certain it's a P because that code isn't listed anywhere. The 99H997P unit could have the E type gearset depending on the serial number of it, engines in that code after number 127422 have economy gears.

My engine number is the same 99HB81P. I am trying to find out which clutch pressure plate I need 180mm or the later 190mm, can anyone help please? Once the clutch assembly has been stripped from the flywheel is it a straightforward reversal for reassembly with the new plate?

A word of caution, things may or may not be the same as when it was assembled so treat the engine numbers as a guide.Steve..

I was under the impression that the 190mm plate was for the 1275.  The number suggests a verto clutch so a 190mm would fit if the pressure plate and flywheel are not worn, but for a 998 it seems a bit over the top, unless you intend to hot it up a good deal.
