That is amazing, stupid question but can you put one of these early dashboards on a later car, ie my 1988 Mini City E?
Cheers :D

Hi - sorry for using my wifes account! (I am her husband) I am in the process of making her a dashboard, centre console and armrest that fit in with the look of her 1986 mini mayfair. It has Brown Interior...now what do you do with that!

The answer is a sheet of 12mm mdf, an old brown leather sofa, a scrap Rover 800 (for the dials) a scrap Vauxhal Omega (for the auto shift gator) and a sheet of vinyl.

We are pretty happy with the result. I am going to change the black self adhesive vinyl though - it looks like Fablon.

As its an auto mayfair I had to cut a different shape hole than the manual.

I fitted it with stainless alan blots along the top and made some L shape brackets that came off the lower dash rail to the side of the KA dash and one from the heater to the dash.

Shown the the finished picture you can see the three in a row along the top (same both sides) and you can see the singular one on the side from the dash rail L bracket

Kept it simple. :D

just another idea about fixing, i did mine by glassing them bolts to the under side of the dash and fixing them through holes in the top dash rail then as garret said fixed the radio housing part to my heater and the sides to l shaped brackets above the footwell.

Could be anything, bolts, screws, rivnuts etc.

If you want to do that in your car your going to need fibreglassing skills, and the ability to chop it right and in the right place.

If you have that kind of skill then how its fixed should be common sense and shouldnt require asking in here.

No fibreglassing with my dashes.

The dashes are cut down and "welded" back together using a soldering iron and small slithers of dash offcuts.

The dashes are then sanded and sent away to be flocked to get a nice even factory finish.

No glue, no fibreglass, no wood screws etc are needed, anyone can do it and its worth having a go.. the dashes cost about £40 from a scrappy and if you get it wrong you can just cut it and have another go.

No complicated measurements were taken, I just cut it in half and mounted the larger section, I then offered up the remaining section and noted where I needed to cut it.
Once cut I then joined the two and started to look at ways of making sure it all fit together cleanly by fitting and removing parts and heating with a hot air gun untill the shape was right.

No great skills needed :teehee:

Good luck if you have a go and keep us updated with pictures.
