In addition to the link Big_Adam provided above, travel off this site and read the following 3 articles:

I'm a proponent of NOT cutting wires. One of the cleanest methods of doing this change is to take an old dynamo control box and gut it leaving only the spade lugs. Inside the gutted box, join the three BIG lugs together with heavy wire and solder. Then join the two small lugs to each other in the same manner. The big lugs are kept separate from the small lugs. Then re-connect the old wiring harness to the modified control box... leaving off the ground/earth wire and making sure that the two small wires are on the small spade terminals you joined together. On the dynamo end of the harness the large brown wire goes to one of the large alternator terminals, the small wire goes to the small alternator terminal. For safety, run an additional heavy brown wire from the remaining alternator terminal to the starter solenoid.
My paragraph above will be detailed in one of the articles I posted the link to above. The advantage of this conversion is the wiring harness is not damaged and you can put the dynamo back in whenever you want... as long as you put a working dynamo and control box back at the same time.
