Might I add that MiniSpares were ace and very helpful in organising all the bits, the TMF+ discount worked a treat as well!

Looks like its all ready for a weekend of mini building, can't wait!!!

Right, well a bit of an update.

I managed to get some time off work so I took Friday of and headed up to see Scurvy (the Stig) on Thursday night.

I took some more bits up for the Sprint so a fair amount of parts are up there now.

Friday saw some rather slow progress with replacing ball joints and cleaning up front hubs.

Saturday involved a day of driving and we got the engine and other parts up to the Sprint.

Sunday was more work on the front suspension and fitting the front hi-lows.

Thanks to Scurvy for helping out with the bits I struggled with (admittedly most of it but I learnt a lot :P)

So which original bits are being retained for the sva/registration retainment?

As its not a original shell then the correct SVA process is to register it as an Amature Build vehicle so it dosnt matter about the original bits.

Unfortunatley it would then loose the reg and be Q plated.

That is if you SVA it (and if I am understanding the regulations).

Oh I forgot the other option is to go all new and register it as a new build then you could get an 08 plate :P.

OK. I was curious as this thread originally reported that you could keep the original vehicle status and reg number.

If you used the original bits would this then mean that you could just do a reshell and keep the original reg and tax status?

Would it be better to use another vehicle ID rather than the one that you were going to use and therefore losing it's historical tax staus??

Or is this a new build issued with a Q plate?

Originally I thought that was the case but the more I have looked into it (and the phone call to VOSA) revealed that unless you use a heritage shell it seems impossible, unless you get a friendly tester on the day??

The original bits thing would only apply if it was a heritage shell.

I think if it’s classed as an amateur build vehicle then I wouldn’t need to use the original id….so straight to Q plate, I think? But not a new build so I wouldn’t get 3 years no MOT, as its not all new parts.

I have however heard of people just getting fibreglass shelled cars through the MOT, not really sure on this…does that mean that once you’re through an MOT its ok??

Not to the letter of the law probably as it would probably be seen in a simular way to a rebodied kit car that kep the same id and make / model details.

Do you not know a friendly MOT tester? Most don't care if it performs well on the test.

what doe people do with marcos's?

it could be worth giving the people that are selling marcos shells and asking them.
