fair enough then, thanks for all the suggestions - think itll just be easier going down the NA route. get a stage one kit on there for starters, then start thinking about a modified head (guessing head choice is a good time to take this to a different part of the site??)

why not bide your time enjoy the car as it is then gradually build up the parts you need like a tank, pump, turbo etc etc then attack it over a weekend and fit everything in one go saves you buying a stage one kit now and changing you mind later
www. turbo minis .co .uk have loads of info and people selling basic turbo bits all the time as they upgrade

well the insurance man wont let me have a turbo for a few years yet
so i guess on with the stage one - i mean i can use most of the exhaust on it, and the inlet manifold when it gets time to turbo it.
wouldnt i need to pull the engine to put a bulkhead box in?

Yeah taking the engine out would help to do a decent job, might just be possible if you stripped everything of the back of the lump.
If you are intent on a Turbo just bear it in mind with any mods you do make you can always pick up any Turbo bargains you see, even if you never get to fit them to your car you can always sell them on. Turbo Metty's have been out of production for nearly 20 years so I can't see the parts getting any rarer.

What insurance company are you getting quotes from?
Mine is less than £200 with a 1293 turbo up to 200bhp!
Its on a 4000 mile limit though.

My old 1000cc engine that i turbo'd was completely standard i.e. block crank & pistons, i bolted a skimmed turbo head to it and was running it at 12psi, i never worked out the compression ratio but it had flat top pistons in it and it ran fine, well untill the gearbox gave out.. lol..
I ran a 16.44 quarter mile at the pod in it
