I remember when we were going down a long road at 60 and there was a huge puddle (more like lake). She decided to drive straight through it in a little Micra instead of driving around it. She got in a right huff when I told her what a stupid thing that was to do as it could have pulled us into the ditch.

nearly everyone i see out on the roads drives around puddles, unfortunately they dont seen to care whether or not a car is coming the other way :(

sometimes the puddle is the softer option :X

and yes, this topic has moved fast as most people get a bit uptight when uneducated folk claim the mini is unsafe and unreliable, of all the cars I've owned the minis handling has got me out of more dodgy moments than any of the others. i had no chance in my old cavalier when i hit oil on a roundabout, it just span like a ballerina (but not as gracefully) =]

plus the mini is small so its harder for people to run into (but bean will disagree with that one)>_<

The above is the result of a head on crash with a Rover 75 I was doing 40mph when I hit the brakes so no idea how much I'd slowed down at impact

Not to much damage really for a 32 year old mini, yesa and b posts, floor pan did suffer some damage, but both me and the ex walked away.

Minis are ok providing they have been well looked after, and donlt have much rust if the front end, floor pans and sills are rotton then you have no hope.

Also show this page to your girlfriend and tell her that the Mini driver suffered a head on collision whilst travelling at around 55mph, when the other motorist involved decided to overtake on a blind bend. Both cars were travelling at around the same speed: -

Crashed Mini Cooper link

The Mini driver was injured, but he said that if he hadn't have been rendered unconscious, then he could have opened the door and got out. The fire brigade only removed the roof because they feared he'd suffered spinal damage as his ears were bleeding.

He hadn't, the engine didn't come back and trap his legs and he made a full recovery and is now back driving a Mini again.

Anyway you can find out all the facts and stuff on this thread: -

Roadcraft link

It's interesting to see that modern cars don't fair any better either?

So in conclusion, take her out for a nice romantic meal at a nice little restaurant (and no I don't mean McDonalds or KFC!). Do it as a surprise, drive nice and gently and perhaps present her with flowers which you cunningly hide behind the seats of the Mini.

She'll soon come around, especially if you let her have a few goes at driving. Trouble is you'll then probably post a thread about how you can prevent your girlfriend from driving your Mini everywhere.

Trust my girlfriend driving the Mini?!?
Noooooooooooooooooooooo!
But in all fairness, that might help - I'll mention it to her and see if she wants to when she comes and visits in a few weeks/months.

Yes and don't forget the meal and flowers, because romance is a powerful thing and also don't forget to tell her that Minis have feelings too: -

It's a shame your girlfriend is so scared of your Mini. I think you should just show her this forum - theres thousands of Mini owners that are driving round in their Minis and I'm sure not EVERYONE has had an accident.

I'm loving all these links! lol

My dad doesn't like Vern because, and I quote 'Minis are death traps' apparently.

I now have selective hearing because I think it's complete tosh. I was driven into by a white van man in a peugeot 206 at only 30mph, he hit the crumple zone and wrote my car off. The nice policeman told me if I'd been in my mini I'd have just a dent but thankfully I wasn't and there is now one less peugeot 206 on the road :D

And YEAY for tugging that tassel! >_<

Incomprehensible really, considering he adores mountain biking and almost killed himself on one 18 months ago on the road (then got himself a bigger chainring to go faster :D ).

When it comes to Push bikes, If you Don't hurt yourself your not going fast enough!!

So far i've Broken my cheek bone in 3 places,2 ribs,Cracked my Sternum, Bruised my Heart, Yes i still ride a bike!
