Long story short:

Bought my first Mini last month. Been showing it off to friends and family over the holidays - thought that my girlfriend would really like it. Turns out she hates the idea of me driving it because in her eyes I will instantly die in a crash because it's "so unsafe". The other night she was crying because of this, and that is what bothers me slightly - she said she can't be happy knowing that I'm driving around in it.

Now I know that Minis aren't exactly the safest cars in the world, but isin't this just an irrational fear? Can anyone give me any advice to put her mind at ease?
It upsets me knowing that she is upset =]

How many crashes has she been in where she was in a Mini? How many people does she know have died in a Mini?

None I bet. =]

Did she have a negative experience of a mini when she was young >_<

On a more serious note her fear is irrational... no they aren't the safest cars in the world but the chances of you having a serious crash are just as low as they are in any other car. I don't think there's much else you can say apart from that really. If you cant talk her into not having a beef every time she sees the car then she's just going to have to live with it =]

Try not driving like a loon - seems it might have been that that has scared her??

Just try and explain that you will drive sensibly, and ask her exactly what her fear is. I mean the ministry wouldn't let you drive it if it is dangerous. I think it is more the size of the car and you trying to "impress" your mates that has upset her mate.

Meh! Know how you feel, my fella is used to 'safe' (boring) cars, and was really worried when I bought Rupert. He used to worry about me every time I went out in it, but he's calmed down a lot now.

So they're a bit more crumply than some modern cars but a car is only as safe as the driver, so as long as she trusts your driving (I assume she does?) then she needn't worry. I know there are some idiots on the road, but you'd be as much as risk from them in any other car.

I'm sure given time she'll calm down too... maybe she'll fall in love with minis as well!

Ask her if she owns a motorbike helmet as your thinking of selling the Mini. =]

If it does come down to a choice of her or the car, I'll consider taking either off your hands for a small fee.

Give her a damn good shaking, tell her to pull herself together, and stop being so nieve, and stupid, yeah I know maybe a little harsh, but it should do the job.

Yes minis may not be the safest things on the road, but there are worse
