The vehicle identity number (VIN) is stamped into the body . It's in the bonnet rain gutter above the brake and clutch resevoir below the windscreen. Move the rubber to see it and you may need a damp cloth to clean the paint.on the slam panel where the bonnet closes

You know I think you might have something there.
It is a code including the paint though and not a VIN number. Paint I think is 1 letter 4 numbers. yes it is
May be a trim code then...someone must know
I'll have to check.....

The VIN plate tells you,... the EEC type approval number, paint and trim codes, weight and loading codes, and the vehicle identification number.
The plate is fitted to saloons on the left hand front inner wing panel (I was wrong) icon_redface.gif 650bytes 1 downloads
On estates the plate is on top of the panel next to rad but flat(suppose that is clubmans as well)
On vans and pickups the plate is on the front of the right hand inner wing panel.
Only late models (eighties I presume) have a paint code.
some of the code means;-
X ....BL internal reference
K...848cc
L...998cc
C...1098cc
2W ...2 door estate
2S...2 door saloon
G...post office van
V...van
U... pick up
1 ...1st series
2...clubman
I dont understand it either scratching_chin.gif 376bytes 0 downloads
