Just to put this all in perspective many of the higher spec "4x4 Chelsea Tractors" mainly used by mothers to drop off and pick up the kids from school can cost well over £40,000.
Range Rover Sport - Price Range £35,750 - £63,237
BMW X5 - Price Range £39905-£53770
I think your money will depreciate less invested in the Works Minis over the next 10 years, replica or not!
I can also think of a few footballers and so called celebrities who could set a better example of how and where to spend their money before we feel too guilty about Mini prices!
With regard to Africa too much of the money and food sent in by outside aid has ended up in the wrong hands and been used to buy guns and fund corrupt governments. There is no easy solution of course but always at least ask what your donation will be used for............

Even if i had the money, i wouldnt buy it as it is hugely overpriced! And as The Anorak has said (and i have no problems or am in any way offended by what he said) it will be mainly un-original parts so essentially its just the plates and the nice look with the knowledge that its famous etc (as Jammy said i think!)
Personally i'd rather spend the money if i had it on fixing mine up! add bits i'd like to make it exactly how i want it, would be a bit cheaper to build a replica than to buy the £40k one i'd imagine! Sure it has different plates, but whoever buys it im pretty sure won't use it as a proper mini, it will end up being locked up somewhere or being trailered to shows to people can say oh wow look! Which i personally think is a shame as its just another mini being wasted..why have it and not use it! Yeah i know to save it from rusting etc but come on, parts can be replaced and rust can be treated
