Hi people

I have just bought a new carpet for my mini project from Newton Commercial. I did a search on fitting of it for tips and a basic guide but could not see much. The thing is i don't have the old carpet to help use as a template, for example they say to use the old carpet to mark the bulk head mat, but i cant as i have never had the carpet :(. So if any one has some tips on how i can fit this carpet with out mucking things up that be great, also i don't want to go too mad on using glue just in case the carpet needs to come out in a couple months when i have the car resprayed and if i get any good old water leaks and need to dry the car out :P

Also i have carpet clips the ones what rivet down http://www.minispare....aspx?pid=37527 How do you use them ?

If any one can help with some info and tips that be great.

Thanks Billy

Most important thing is take your time and only cut when you are sure it's in the right place! The Newton carpets are pretty good anyway, which helps. Also take as much as you can out of the car - seats & seatbelts, heater, steering column, etc, - it makes things MUCH easier. You will need to use glue for the bulkhead, inner wings, inner sills and floor cross-member, but if you plan to take them out soon just use a few spots of spray glue for now.

The carpet clips - there should be 8 raised plates which are spot-welded onto the floor - the smaller part of the press stud rivets to these. The other half of the press stud goes on the underneath of the carpet and the bit with three spikes on it presses through the carpet and through the three holes in the press stud. You then bend the spikes over to grip the carpet in between the 2 parts.

90% of my carpet set is just wedged in place. The inner wings and inner sills are just wedged securley in place.

When cutting the holes for stuff though be careful! Just use trial and error and make a small hole first - fit it in place, then make it abit bigger, then refit etc until the fit is right. I made the mistake of just making a rough estimate and i made a right mess of it!

It was a job I thought was going to be simple, but it took me ages and in the end i just bodged it with the intention of doing it right later. another thing on my list!

If in doubt, invest in Velcro. :P Can stick it down temporarily and then cut to fit precisely.

What about if you don't have the clips?

Is it still posible to fit the carpet with some glue spots?
