I spose I could ask you lovely people about my bike dilema. . . :geek:

I have a bike. Its a lovely bike. Its pink ;) However, its SO hard to ride, I think its the tyres, they are more like ''off road'' tyres. . .

My problem is. . I want to start cycling a lot more, and I dont mean all these stunts like you have been doing. . . I mean long distance endurance. . . but its so so hard to ride, im pretty sure its the tyres. Do you think its better to sell it and get a new one, or just change the wheels and tyres to the thin ones?

Im not sure, if I did sell it, if I would get much for it, it is in good condition but ive had it years. . .

hey raz

i think to be honest the problem isn't the tyres, i ride with 2.1s (2.1 inches, which are fairly heavy duty off road tyres) on the road daily and, although not as efficient as road tyres, they aren't difficult. A couple of things to check would be the tyre pressures (are they pumped up!) but the problem is more likely the brakes. A simply check would be to unclip the brakes (usually not too hard to do but you may need three hands to put them back on!) and ride (slowly) to check if the brakes are constantly rubbing on the rim's thus making it hard to ride!

Have you got a pic of this gawgous pink bike?

yeah i work in bikehut so temptations come by alot!

raz, a slicker and thinner tyre can very easily be fitted which will be alot easier to pedal on the tarmac. Of course, for distance road usage, a 700 wheel is the best option, so really, a new road bike, but that all depends how much youre looking to spend, as good bike doesnt come cheap!

i would agree that, whilst you could spend alot of money on a nice road bike with all the trim, you really don't have to. In my opinion to have a nice bike all you need to do would be to give your current one a once over (adjusting gears, brakes) and you should be ok. If you want to spend a bit more, its worth getting a set of slicker tyres more designed for road use, but, i think buying anything too slick is not what your looking for as the bike would not perform as well all round. A new set of tyres would cost around £30, they are easy to fit (providing you know how) and would improve your ride no end. Other things to look into upgrading that wouldn't cost a bomb would be new saddle, possibly handlebar grips (my odi lock on's are dead comfy) and perhaps if yours dies (which imo with cheaper bikes they do all too frequently) a sealed bottom bracket which will last forever

I used to have an old Peugeout racing bike when I was about 11, and I want another racing/road bike to commute to work and rack up the laps around the park. If anyone knows anyone selling a decent retro racer/road bike for under £50 let me know!

I've seen a couple of Orange Clockworks on eBay, any idea on how good they are?

i seem to remember hearing good things about the orange frames, you'd be hard pushed to get a good bike for under £50 though.

I dunno, while at uni I managed to get decent bikes for all my mates, it's a shame I didn't buy one when the opportunity was there, because now I want one.

I'm not interested in lightweight or really techno happy. I just want a simple 80s era road/race bike that I can just commute with. No crazy gear shifters or brakes, I'm happy with top-tube mounted shifters to be honest.

My bike... im going to start riding again, my stomach is growing and petrol prices are getting higher so decided to try and ride to work instead of driving.

I have had it years and not used it for just as many so fixing the rear brakes as they dont work and giving it a ride.

Do you have to do maintance to them? If so what should i do? Chain is oiled.
