and still, i dont keep this updated :bah:

well iv stipped the engine down and i know the reason why this happened in the end and it ent pretty :tumble:
Posted Image
was the 1st sign of something wrong after i took the head off, thats Cyl. 4
Posted Image
heres the matching head

after i pulled the block off the box i was met by this....
Posted Image
wasnt a good sign

so....the pistons
Posted Image
top ring split in 2 pieces, not good for compression really
Piston 2 was ok though
Posted Image
nice crack in the ring land! not good really
brings me onto piston 4, it was even a pain removing it from the block
Posted Image
1st bit i laid my eyes on...then...
Posted Image
ohhh cr*p...thats where the deposits on the bore came from! not pretty, no top ring at all
theres also scraping on the otherwise of the piston like the 1st from cyl. 4...guess through not beign supported by the rings

so, now i got annoyed at wiring so its all out now, completly empty...ish
Posted Image
what a mess
Posted Image
still horrible!
Posted Image
and empty!
Posted Image
the nasty mess which was my loom, even taking it apart iv realised alot of wires werent even being used

so plans...my engine is down at southam mini and metro centre at the moment, not sure when its going to be ready due to circomstances... anyway ill be buying a new FG dash soon enough, a 2nd hand loom then its time for be to get butchering, got most of it planned out now. additions include

mega jolt :withstupid:
my acewel ignition from Herb.
internal blade fusebox mounted to the dash front

alot of wires will need extending due to how im routing the loom, going to be done as neat as i can because i LOVE it when its all neat, going to be in convoluted tubing, planned out so tubes are taught n neat looking.
about time i got round to sorting the last bodge on the car, should be good when its done :closed:
got the dash almost planned out

engines also getting a baffle tray in the gearbox, looks absolutly smint unfitted though lol

comments welcome :closed:

Just read through the whole project, HOLY CRAP!!!! you must well up the list of unlucky a-series owners. Those pistons! :tumble: :withstupid: Crazy, I'm glad your still going strong and sticking with it though. The cf dash and mega jolt will be sweet :bah:
I'll be watching.

Well you've made a mess of that!!

I'm surprised the damm thing ran at all.

For your wiring have a look at this

http://www.cbsonline...rmod-1185-p.asp

Looks ideal for your needs and easy(er) than DIYing it.

So when will toy have it all back together then?

i dont know, to me doing it that way almost looks more difficult, probably because i havent got it in my hands. i think ill be using a 2nd hand loom, cutting out the bits i dont need, adding in the new bits for jolt n wrapping it my way

iv no real clue what caused it, not sure if maybe a piston ring caused the wall, dragged n killed taking everything with it...just guess work really, as long as southam can machine the damage to the bore away ill just forget about it....for now at least till my bill comes in

simple....i cant haha

na iv stopped rallying at the moment, on the run up to the event it cost me couple thousand...thats including buying all my overalls etc thats over 500 easy, then tests, then when i failed medicle on sight i had to get glasses, few hudred there...then entry fee was £250 ish, club member ship, fuel, tyres, parts etc etc etc...cant afford to do it at the moment, i bought the car while i was still working, bt used savings for the perchase so im not actualy minted as may come across, far from it currently

well, i decided to run this engine on megajolt and i have everything i require now i *think!!!*

well...fi=ound out the reason why previous engine killed itself  it was running 12.5:1 well...thats gona do it!! not supprised now...never taking anyone's word for it from now on, clearly the guy had NO bloody idea what the hell he was doing!!

soo....iv been out all day at southam building the engine, my my...there's been some problems.
had to take 30 thou off top of the pistons to achieve a good CR ratio (with the 10cc dish an 73mm it was achieving 11.5 as standard and also protruded 5thou over top of the bore.
the Cylinder head i was told was unleaded is infact leaded...joy....and when dissassembled turns out 3 valves were bent, 2 exhaust valves and 1 inlet. the springs are incorrect strength and possibilty of becoming coilbound as a reason why the inlet valve was bent (bent at the top, had to straighten to be removable.
few of the cylinder head studs were incorrect, one was also bent...so that got binned n replaced.
the rocker shaft was worn to feck! so was going to replace the shaft but the angle of the rocker isnt the optimum so going to steal the sinthered ones from my 93 mini and then go back tomorrow morning to fit them aswell as finish off the rest.

worst of all...the block needs repainting! hahaha, the hot wash at southam stipped it right off, shaaaaame! :)

also bought the wiring modual from car builder solutions...should be alreet i hope!
its built and home, just few pics of short engine 1st i think

Posted Image

Posted Image

windage tray
Posted Image

all built up now
Posted Image

and just to show the megajolt :shifty:
Posted Image

and this will be roughly what it will look like...although neater
Posted Image
the dash it going to be held in using rubber rivnut's quite clever little things, clamp round a surface and there re-usable...neat!

and my list of things to do, shouldnt be too hard
1. finish off the bulkhead, grind, drill for hose n wire passages. Fit steering column bracket, wiper motor bracket and paint.
2. plan fitment of wiring modual
3. plan fitment/position of megajolt.
4. fit engine, exhaust, gear linkage and extra engine steady
5. fit dash, check gear linkage for dash clearence, plan arrangment of dials and switches
6. wire up the car
7. Check hydraulic lines, reposition handbrake if required
8. paint floor
9. paint arches, refit & apply stickers
10. Laqure roof
11. straighten front pannel , repair as required
12. fit sump gaurd
13. Tidy up car
14. spanner check

hmm, just trying to think of where to position the wiring modual and megajolt, im thinking on the front of the dash, i didnt particualy want the whole lot sat in front of the dash but its easy accessable place for both the modual and megajolt. Still need to figure my manifold for the MAP...drats
