All these people without neighbour issues... I envy you!
Its also rather ironic that when I was off work on Monday sick I ended up listening to said complainant neighbour doing what... Angle grinding, so just because I dont have the luxury of week days off to do the work he sees it fit to email the council on me. Needless to say, If I recieve any coraspondants from the Council following tomorrows work, they will be informed.
The cage will be MIGed together, as nice as it would be to TIG it, I've never used TIG (but I might have the chance to learn at work soon) I also dont have the equipment at home.
I havent done much tube welding so will be sure to brush up on it before I attack the car...Im looking forward to it though as it will make the car feel more complete, especially when I start adding the ally firewalls back.
With that, its also about time for me to place my order for my FG/CF panels, sure there will be a fair lead time on them all.
Oh and im sure you ill be around Leam or Warwick when its done, It owes me enough time! haha

You aren't the only one with neighbour issues, unfortunately it seams some people either never grew up or were just born assholes.

Your thread reminds me of the do it right and then you wont have to do it again/ the restorers curse of if it's not perfect it will niggle you until you do it again. Keep soldering on, the first drive will be so worth it.

If only it was a "do it once" kinda thing... might have saved me money last time I had it apart... nay mind... this is the one time im settled on an idea more or less, the propper way... It just takes longer and costs more
Speaking of which, today took a little longer than I had liked, didnt get a whole lot done on the mini, my playstation YLOD last night and spent this morning fixing it... Priorities right there!!
After that I was onto the mini, I spent time dressing the welds over the n/s rear wheel arch which I hadnt flatted last time. After that I set about fitting the tubes up... unto the pictures...
I started off my using lengths of 80mm tube welded over the shock mount. I will still be able to get to the nut in the middle and will help strengthen up the shock mount, a problem when using coilovers.
The rear stays in place here... bit of a pain in the arse getting the angles and notches correct... more so considering I dont have an actual notcher so Im using the good old fashioned (much the to neighbours annoyance) Angle grinder! It works, just a bit of a slow process making sure I dont screw up.
Thats as far as I got unfortunatly, I might get chance to do some more tomorrow but I have a heap of house crap to do first, BOO!

Cheers, the rear ends already stiffened up substantually. Before I had fixed the rear stays in place, I was able to push at the C piller and it would flex the rear end quite scary. While it does still move a little now, it keeps the turrets in place without flex.
I will be doing a bit of stitch welding along the rear 1/4 joins and at the roof line. Hopefully take up a bit more flex. In anycase, as long as all the suspension points stay firm the body can move a little without any effect on the vehicles performance.

Few more tubes done today... still taking annoyingly long
Set about fitting in the diagonals
took far too long to notch the cage for the wierd angles. Happy with how it turned out. (just need to chop down the strut top section)
Like this view, dont often see it from here, haha!
Thats as far as I got on the cage today, I've still to re-do the lower rear stays. After that I set doing some seam welding around the shell. I've only done a bit at the rear for now. Plenty more to do.
Seam welding around the tubs to rear 1/4
Seam welding down the rear panel and also around the roof line.
Its already stiffened up the back somewhat
