Hi
I bought mini recently last week, may I could be stupid to operate. With in 3 days my car become sitting duck. Every time I have to call AA guys come and resue me.
Model : 1996 Mini Cooper Sport / MPI
Its do with Immobilser I guess. Every time I start and retry again. Its giving me headaches.
Lights are working, air conditioner is working. I put the key in iginition red light comes in. But it will not start no starting sound. Dead silence. I tried with my friends car using good old jump start it worked twice but not any more. Is this some thing do with battery? I placed a new battery in my immobilser as well. I have no clue what is going on. I am noivice techie. Any tips ?

The red light is the immobiliser, it's stopping you from starting up the car. I've found the best way to reset it is to disconnect the battery, reconnect it, turn ON the immobiliser and then turn it off. Make sure you turn it ON first before trying to turn it off. To disconnet the immobiliser, open up the large fuse box (the one below the right hand side of the dash) and take out the yellow 20 amp fuse.

Hi all,
Thanks for the response and reply.
After a long stay in the garage car is now on road. Since 3 days no problem at all, my mechanic found out that problem is with the battery. Always car halts on night time. I have to jump start the car. It happen quite often.
It’s brand new battery, so no blame on battery. Mechanic is saying I cant use all the electrical equipment on one go
A/C, rear window de mistifier, lights, (CD player is not working) are the main load on the battery. If we turn ON everything battery is not charging enough. It is charging 11 V only. But I can use any two of them so battery will be charged above 12 V.
So is this some loose wiring or defective/worn out alternator?
Any suggestions?

The alternator on your car is more than up to powering all the standard equipment. Get the alternator output tested.
