i'll be ya' best friend?

Lester

Car Audio Security is where I got it from. the guys were supper helpfull as there was a problem with stock and the manufacturer didn't have any more but they sorted one out for me as I said I needed it for tomorrow.

KAM cheers for the comments. The furr on the door cards was a temp thing but people loved it so I left it for now. Down the line it's gonna go alcantara with some orange detailing so should suit the car better. It is nice to rest your leg on when driving in shorts though :mrcool:

thank u!!!

just ordered mine...mite order the rev counter next week... how did u hook up the speedo?... for some reason i can find it....

no worries glad to help. I do like mine alot. still need to calibrate it though as it does read 29mph when on the motorway :D gonna get the rev counter when I can afford it.

Not been on for a bit as have been having a break from car stuff. After spending 3 months working everyday on the car it's nice to chill out. The car went really well down to the riv run and back. No major drama's. The car is set toooooooo low so is rubbing the arches all round. Funny as booting up the hills on the A30 past some other minis and had smoke coming from the back of the car. They followed us into the camp site and came up saying, yeah your car is smoking a bit, but when we got a whif of it realised it was from your tyres rubbing on your n/s rear arch :teehee: so will be getting that sorted soon. Also the VTEC is not working at the mo. This could be many things but have not got into looking at it yet. Might be cause I don't have a rev gauge but think that's only a slim chance of that. So many wires and sensors that it could be anything.
Temperatures with the polo rad. Was running hot on the M5 all the way to Exeter to the point where I thought I best stop. But got to a bit rain storm and though this will cool me down. No chance. Kept hot. But a little bit further and the car had a little cough :ermm: and straight away I saw the temp gauge come down to half :dontgetit: and that is where it stayed. Slightly above half when pressing on up the hills but at the top it calmed down. I'm thinking about maybe adding either a bigger fan or maybe an MPI rad in series on the other side of the engine bay to help cooling. Trial and error will help in that.
With all the interiour in it was alot quieter but when the foot goes down or on overrun it does get loud to the point it makes you feel sick :P But I'm happy with that :P

All in all it ws a very successfull trip and I have a few things to get on with but driving her everyday it's all good.

Good to hear it made it for the riv run and back :D

That vid you done when joining onto the bypass it sounds like the vtec is kicking in? Strange?

I think the usual suspects are oil temp and pressure, but you can try cleaning out the vtec solenoid, known to get clogged up and cause starvation

I was told that when you get VTEC it's a real kick up the arse and you sure as hell no when it happens so defo not. If it is and I don't realise then I may have to get a turbo for more power :) But I'm 99.99% sure it's not working. Will figure it out at some point. May whip the solenoid off at some point and give it a quick clean but I have put a light in line too so that should be coming on when it's trying to get the solenoid working. Still need to get an check light sorted as I'm sure I must be throwing up codes that might be causing probs. Not sure where to wire that light in so will look into that too

hi mate. electrics question here. did you use the mini switches for light indicators etc. if yes how did you get the lights to work. i', got them working but the they are always on main beam. cant work out where the main/dipped relays are to test them and not sure how the main beam connects to the mini main dipped switch. any help would be appreciated

Mr Monkey,

Did you manage to sort out your vtec prob?

to be honest I've always looked at honda vtec engines as just an engine with a lairy cam? My mates standard EP civic was just noise when the vtec kicked in, felt fast in higher revs but thats noise induced?

Never gave me a kick in the back like a turbo would? Maybe with the minis weight it might?

Hi guys it's been a little while since I was on here. Too busy enjoying the sunshine.

Wassupcrew - I used all the mini loom for all the electrics for the the car and then used the Honda loom just for the engine. I cut out what I thought I didn't need in both looms and it was ok as everything worked. Lucky really. Not too sure what to do about your lights without having a look around your loom and seeing how things are laid out. I think every mini VTEC has different wiring. It's been a week or so now since your post so did you find anything that was the problem?

KAM - I think it's still a prob with the ecu programme. I've been trying to get hold of the guy who did the map but he's not been on the civic forum for a few months so can't reach him. So what I have done, all be it a bit crude is to bypass the ecu for now and have the solenoid on a switch in the cab. So when I'm all up to temp and have the right speed and revs I want I mash the button and away we go :( -_- ;) :) It does go well with the button down. A lot more than when it's not working. She's still kicking out a lot of smoke though so I don't boot it too much until I get that look at but my first job is the ecu. I'll try and get a vid up of some VTEC action for you to show what it's like

hi mate, yeah did get them working in the end, realised that hondas don't have headlight relays, its all done in the switch on the column, so a little playing with the wires and it all works now. havent had much time to play with it though, just bought a new car to replace my truck, a 2004 octavia vrs
