Mike, if you can find out if my loom's any good for yours, it's available! I don't need it!

I'm using a C18XE from a 1994 (I think) Astra GSi.

Thanks very much for the offer matt, but ive decided to go with megasquirt now. So jon will be making the engine loom section of the loom now too.

A small update, going to collect quite a nice part for the project this weeks hopefully. Should get things moving a little faster.

Small update before i get off my ass to go outside and do something.

Went to collect this yesterday, along with a full stainless powerflow system.

When its fitted i should be able to mock up where the rad will need to sit and then get the mount made up for it.

I did a test fit of the manifold on the engine this afternoon, and it sits a little further forward than i was hoping for, so might have the rethink the radiator that i use. Didnt have change to check it with the rad but when im off work, il try and find a suitable place for the rad to be mounted so it fits under the front that ive got.

Today i spent a bit of time mocking up the mounting points for the radiator. Ive got the idea right, but i need to wait untill ive got my new frontend before i can fix them onto the frame.

Bit of an update, as ive actually done some work. Today i started to strip all of the old pant off the rear side of the engine ready to repaint. Seems to be taking a while, but its coming up nicely.

Also took the crank pulley off and cambelt so i could start stripping down the oil/water punp end of the engine. So that they can be replaced when i change the sump.

No pictures as yet, but i should have some tomorrow.

Did all of this after a slight mod to my hairdresser car :D

Finally doing some work for once instead of thinking about it.

Ive removed the engine from the car and mounted it up on an engine stand so i can repaint it and replace some bits before i get it running in the new year.

So far ive stripped the rear side of the engine back to metal and repainted it:

You can see a little of the original colour here.

Cam Cover off so i could take the cam pulleys off.

Just painted and now im waiting for it to dry

List of things i plan on replacing:

Cambelt and tensioners
Oil Pump
Water Pump
Sump and gasket (for a steel pan)

I was also going to check the big end shells and maybe change to ARP rod bolts.

Wow, its been a long time since i got off my arse and did anything on this.

Not much of an update, but things will start to move forward hopefully.

Ive removed the clutch and fly wheel from the engine. Now i can get onto inspecting the internals to see if anything needs to be replaced.

Ive not got a new oil pump to fit also a full top and bottom end gasket and seal kit from SBD.

List of things still needed for the engine.

Water pump
ARP Rod bolts
Steel sump
Themostat
Cambelt
Possibly new main and big end bearings
Something for fueling and spark, but im working on that :)

Went out and did some work on the engine for a couple of hours. Not really pleased with my finding.

First of all, took the sump and all the bearing caps off, to see if eveything was ok, and found this:

Il be having the crank reground and replacing all of the bearings obviously. So i took the crank out.

So then i took the head off to see what condition the bores were in, again not great news:

Scores on the bore.

So now to add the the list of things to buy, i need a new set of pistons, a rebore and a crank regrind.

Measured the crank this evening and the journal that had the knackered shell on it measured 4 thou down on standard, all of the rest seemed to be within 1-2 thou. Almost all of the journals had a score of some sort on them though, so im hoping i can get away with a .25 regrind.

The next thing i need to do is refit all of the bearing caps and see if any of them have been damaged/bent. If they have il have to look for a replacement block.
