ooooh nasty mate, the engine i got has had a head rebuild, but like u i have to check bottom end, don't give up mate, your doing really well,no one can be bothered at the mo so dont worry.good luckMeasured the crank this evening and the journal that had the knackered shell on it measured 4 thou down on standard, all of the rest seemed to be within 1-2 thou. Almost all of the journals had a score of some sort on them though, so im hoping i can get away with a .25 regrind.
The next thing i need to do is refit all of the bearing caps and see if any of them have been damaged/bent. If they have il have to look for a replacement block.
gutted about the engine problems that shell was screwed
good thing u did pressum the best and carry on regardless
Thanks for the comments chaps.
The engine is now stripped ready to go for a rebore, but the place im taking it are moving. So it will be 2-3 weeks before it can go. Im not really too concerned about the damage aslong as all of the bearing caps are ok. I sort of expected it to be honest.
It gives me reason to modify it. It not going to be anywhere near the standard 150bhp.

List of things i need to complete the bottom end rebuild:
Cometic head gasket (so i can run the 88mm omegas)
Arp rod bolts
Arp Flywheel bolts
I was also thinkining of switching to Arp head studs instead of bolts, but im not sure on this yet.
When ive done the botom end i plan on stipping cleaning and rebuilding the head to make sure its perfect.

Today these came which i bought off ebay:

GSXR 750 Throttle bodies
As you can see in that picture theyve got secondary throttle valves which, i dont need. So i decided to take the tbs apart and remove them.

Split into pairs.

Butterflies and spindle removed.
I then split them up seperately so i could start spacing them for the XE manifold.

Then i lined them up with the manifold ive made and secured them in place.

Theyre only together temporary as i need to clean them, get a few more fixings on and fix on some throttle extensions, but im pleased with the result so far.
On another note, after ordering them in mid july, im told my 88mm Omegas should arrive tomorrow.

Just read the whole project mate, looks excellent. And the mazda is lovely too. Saw one in the co-op car park with a splitter like yours the other day and i really liked it.
Thanks for the comments chaps.

Those are pretty
Indeed, im really pleased with them.
Im hoping to complete my throttle bodies this week. At the weekend i smoothed out the inlet stubs of the original manifold so i can just connect the TBs to the manifold with silicone. I also ordered the JB Weld i need to fill in the hole of the TBs. Tomorrow i will make up the throttle lever extensions to get all four operating correctly.

Ive just seen the price tag attached to them pistons - Ouch
, but my god do they look good!
now get them fitted!![]()
Yeah they definately werent cheap, but i think they're worth it when you see the quality of them.
I think they'l be sitting on my desk for a while yet as ive decided to leave the engine as it is for a while, at least untill the shell is nearer completion. Id rather not have a hugely expensive engine build just sitting there in a cold garage, not being turned over for long periods.
So...... ive started looking at suspension setup/components. I can then start to reinforce the front shock mounts for the coilovers aswell as turreting the rear arches. When ive done that hopefully the car will be rolling again, as its sitting on the floor at the minute.
