I have searched but I havnt found the answer to this one...

Ive just dumped my 1380 in after replacing the clutch and top end stuff. I have been cranking it over for a while tryin to start it (got my ht leads all wrong), then just as I get it sounding like its about to fire, the starter motor, although spinning isnt turning the engine over!! :dontgetit: so i take the starter motor off, to find the flywheel is turning!??!?!!!! :P

What is the most likely senario? has the it come off the taper? bolt come loose?

it is an pre verto type clutch.

one other thing to add..... when i was bolting the flywheel back together after replacing the clutch, it was really tight to do it up!! although i did torque it up correctly and bend the lockin tap over. did it not go up the taper properly??

any help appreciated!:withstupid:

screwdriver in the teeth thru the starter housing?

tighten too 125lb 3 times......

is the centre of the flywheel ok?

Yeh like that, screwdriver to lock it, 125lb and checked it.

the centre of the flywheel seemed fine too.

First thing to check for - check you've put the clutch plate on the right way round. This will prevent the flywheel from sitting home properly as youve described. Sounds like youve been lucky not to score the hell out of the crank nose and flywheel center.

i dont think the flywheel assembly would go together if the clutch plate was on the wrong way round...

Hi..!..Ihad a similar problem some years ago and when I striped engine back again I found crank had snaped at mains and no4 conrod so looked as motor was turning, when on closer inspection I was sold a faulty crank, take out spark plugs put a thin length of dowel 300mm in one of the bores and turn motor by hand from fly wheel end and see if dowel moves if not crank is snaped.....good luck............

It will, reason i say this is because i did the self same thing 3 weeks ago in a moment of sheer blondeness (no offence), the assmebly will all go together, but the flywheel wont sit home properly on the cranknose, as laddo himself has described.

Which type of clutch? I'm pretty sure the clutch plate won't sit on the primary gear the wrong way round on a pre-Verto....
