Bit of an update,
I bought this last week

Not an MG metro engine as I first thought, but I've started taking all the ancillary bits off it, to give it a good clean, and plan to fit an SW5 cam, and send the head off to get some work done on it. Not planning on painting it because it's not a show car, but should be nice and clean when done!
I've also removed all the sharp nastiness from the front end, so can now get on repairing the rusty inner arches and fit new A panels.

Right time to bring this project back from the depths of TMF archives and give a bit of an update. Since my last post, my plans have changed somewhat. I regretted chopping the front end off big time, and have decided to go back to a full steel flip front. The planned spec is;
Theme - Classic retro mini on 10s with a couple of modern touches.
Engine - 1293 A+ Supercharged with a VMAX kit. Electronic ignition, uprated cam, stage 3 head, HIF44, oil cooler, 2 core rad.
Gearbox - Rebuilt with a centre oil pick up and X pin diff.
Body - Full steel shell in old English White with group 2 arches and chrome in all the right places, and possibly a full roll cage.
Wheels - McNally's, hopefully refurbed if I can find a place that'll treat them carefully
Suspension - Gaz shocks, Hilos, new cones, refurbed subframes.
Interior - Smiths gauges, vinyl trim (undecided on the colour), Cobra Seats.
I'm now hoping to get the car finished by April next year, so I can do the London to Brighton, instead of drooling over everyone elses mini.
The shell is currently with PanelbeaterPeter at Classy Campers for welding and respray. I was really impressed with his work on his threads so it made sense to make the trip up the M4 to ensure it was in safe hands. He's been really friendly and always on the other end of a PM for advice. If you haven't seen his work check it out on his posts. I'll post pics when Pete updates me.
That's all for now!
