Putting post in the right place helps too.

Hi Andi, and welcome to tmf. I can't find the recent posting that describes exactly how a tmf member installed his ciggy lighter but there's another link here. You can browse for other postings with the search button. Have you any pictures of your mini?

OK, the cigarette lighters are normally fitted using an ignition switched live, an earth, and also often have a light in there too. Sometimes the light is switched on by taking a feed from the dashboard (red/green wire IRIC) sometimes the light is just taken from the ignition switched live. You would also normally add an inline fuse I guess.

It's the sort of thing that's easy to fit, but even easier with access to a Hayne's manual for the wiring diagrams for your model of mini.

As has been said above, this is kinda in the wrong section of the forum, so I've moved it to the technical and problems section for a better response.

PS: Welcome to TMF

Its an easy job... 10 mins at the very most.

just have to make sure you run a new wire... reason being (i notice no one else has said anything  ) that the current pulling when its actually heating up is enough to melt most substandard wiring.. and causing a possible fire hazard.
just make sure the wiring is upto standard!!

I am doing this today :) Do I have to replace the wiring if i just want it for sat nav and charging my phone? :P

Wired the light in so its only on when head lights are on. Just got the main part to fit now.

It is fairly simple even whne you dont really know what you are doing.

P.S welcome to the forum!

If your just using it for a satnav and charging your phone it wont warrant having to use any chunky wiring... you might even be able to splice off of the accessory feeds and use one of those...

but id make sure it is off of the accessory feed and not a mains feed....
if you leave the satnav or phone charging when the keys are out i guess it could minimize flat batteries. :)

I did this, for the reasons above, I fitted a accessory socket from a boat because it had a cover, I just spliced it into the radio wiring, between the radio and the fuse this was what I used, the tabs made it easy to screw under the dash.

Can't get link to work http://cgi.ebay.co.u...1QQcmdZViewItem

Or search ebay on '12v Marine'
