i have one on my club forum, so this is all copied from there lol!
the car:
a 1971 austin mini 1000, reshelled at some point into a 1987 shell (E reg printed on the headlamps)
sprayed a horrible flourecent green with a black bonnet and boot, even had the bolt on the door.... really cool.....
standard grey 80's interior, no lovely 70's retro mini left on the upside, it did come with a stage 1 998, RC40, cooper s disks and 10" weller wheels, oh, and no tax to pay ever again!!! all for £750!
so, this is what it looked like when i got it home!
so, the idea.
70's Retro Rally! ooo lovely!
so i started strippuing everything off it and rubbing it down, i also cut off the bumper seam on the front, well, my dad did lol

i needed some patching on my inner sills though....
so my friend ryan came up to rub it down, known as blackbelt1990 on here
crazy pattern!
i bout some lights in the form of some nice mk2's, and a lucas reversing lamp. i also got a centre speedo with the oval pod and oil/temp guages on each side to complete the period look.
i also bought an ignition to go in my switch panel so i cut off the one on my collum, other purchases include some italian job leather bonnet straps, i also cut off my bonnet lip and so mk1 grill is also on the list!
i also got some luurvely wing mirrors off ebay, not mini but they look like the lucas ones you can buy...

i got a navy blue interior, some guages and switches etc for my rally dash panels which go either side of the speedo, and a 1098 engine!
i also decided on tweed grey for the colour, and that i would go archless, soo the wellers cant stay as much as i love them!
i got my act together and got these wheels:
i also noticed bubbling after the car been stood for 6 weeks! so i got out the grinder and got it back to bare metal, then some filler and primer later.....
i also got my new wheels on, they look good!
why thankyou mr postman!

so this is how it looked on 6th september of this year:
bit of photoshop, but i couldnt get the colour right lol:
i got a new bootlid too as mine was a bit flakey! lol
i got rid of all the rust with a grinder, then i used fibreglass to cover the holes. it was then sanded down, sprayed with anti rust primer, and filler applied over the top to smooth it out, which was then sanded down, and finally the lid was rubbed down with 1200 wet n dry, lovely!
i used a wire brush drill to get rid of the grease and rust in my engine bay, i painted it with white hammerite, i then put my new master cylendar pate on, and painted my master cylendars in silver hamerite (still to finish) it looks really smart! i still need to do the innner wings too.
here are some pics of the sill and the nasty hole in the quarter panel!
these were all fixed when it went for its spray job, about two weeks ago!
while it was away being sprayed, i bought my rally dash panels

today i made my rally dash!! yay! it looks smint! i havent bolted it in place yet though lol
i also sprayed up my mk1 switch panel but was annoyed to find that the hole in the dash rail was slightly larger... hmmm so ill have to make a strip to go in then when its covered in leatherette you wont beable to tell
my dad gave me an avanti map light that he had on one of his cars back in the day lol, so that will go on the passenger door, with a switch in the passenger dash panel, ill probably save up for a trip and some stopwatches to go on there too.
got my doors on and my numberplate! yay!!
gotta cover the dash rail before i fit the windscreen and cut my speaker holes before i fit the rear!
almost all done!!
YAY!
