Also got a proper metal bonnet and hinges (thanks to webweavers and the miracle of fleabay) to replace the old fibreglass bonnet.
I took out the windows and found this..
Only the one window was rusted thankfully, all the others were fine, even the front.
Anyway, soon sorted it out,
Easy as that!

Can i ask about the window seam.. My scutle has gone, so i've cut it out, but parts of the screen suround has also gone.
Do you just replace the two skins where the panal flanges are joined with a single piece of metal, welded both sides (to both panels).
With some other flange repairs, i have just cut the panels back and butt welded them together, then welded a 'seam' from one side afterwards. Seems strong enough.. does this sound like a good idea though?
Sorry to hijack your thread

Ideally you would replace both inner and outer skins, either by making accurate sections, welding them at either end, then plug or spot welding them together and seam welding either side along at the base, or do what I did which is less original but does a perfectly good job, just get a bit of 1.8 ml steel sheet, make a piece and seam weld it along the base, both sides and the ends. You couldn't really do it with metal any thinner than that as it wouldn't be as strong if you were levering the rubber to get the window in or out etc, plus it wouldn't seal correctly.
Hope that's a help..

You must really love your sister to do all that for her, its looking really really good mate you make it look too easy.

Yo, Yeah my sis is rather cool It's really all a good excuse to do up another mini, without having to pay for it
That's a good idea to just get some old metal panels or sheet metal and have a play with the welder, it's the best way to learn. Just don't be scared of it! it's really very easy once you've figured it out. Good luck!
