right people,,, went for a drive last night in the mini, first time in 2 months and it drove nicely which is a surprise as its been freezin the last few days.. anyway got all the old paint off the roof today back to bare and iv zinc primed and then done it gloss black to match the boot / bonnet, was gonna use my air sprayer but used rattle cans as i had them left over from the bonnet, just got the first coat down and its drying now!!!

Lookin good there mate, i reckon it would look awesome in black with pressed aluminium number plates.

as for black,, nope its goin grey with the black bits, im not a fan of card which are all one colour, if i did it black it would have to different coloured roof/bonnet/boot etc... and yeah pressed plated would look nice but highly illegal..

a few pics one of the first coat of black for the roof and the other the test patch of grey i did,, this is at 2 coats no polish or lacquer..

aye rattle cans certainly are good to use when u have practiced enough,, i know what u mean about the paint, warm weather just will not come soon enough!!! then again gives me time to get the rest of th body just how i want it beforehand.

shopping list;;;;

2 new doors ( possibly mini door company)
possible removable front with a panels included for ease of engine work
a good clean at some point!!
lots of wet n dry
celly thinners
rest of grey paint 2L ish
lacquer??? not sure yet whether to bother as im not to confident sprayin it.

still i can celebrate with a school reunion curry tonight, first time in 5 years iv seen most the guys goin to night, should give me chance to catch up a bit..

well iv got the mini runnin evn better now,, its amazing what a difference setting your valve clearances can do. just been for a quick whiz round the lanes and it drives superb,, still blowing at the engine end of the exhaust,, i can never seem to get it sealed properly i had the same trouble with my last mini you can hear the power being wasted just leaking out the front and not the silencer at the back!!! still its good enough as it is but could be a bit better. funy thing os it sounded like a subaru impreza when i first strated it up but once it cleared its throat it was ok ( not that im complainin as im quite partail to the sound ofg an impreza). will try and get the second coat of black on the roof but i think its far too damp in the garage today as my brother has nicked the heater for himself today cheeky git!!

... I always find a very thin smear of grease on the fanimold gasket helps it seal Nicely.

Shame about not getting the next two coats on,... but hey,.. wont hurt to let it harden off for another day. Nice one doobs >_<

hey guys iv spent today deciding what to do with the engine,, so its gonna be painted at some point. when i do the shell i will remove it so i can do the bulkhead etc... then im going with bright colours and silicone hoses, iv done a rough idea on photoshop i forgot how i acheived my grey colour before so the car colour dont look quite right but that doesnt matter for this anyway..

a picture of it in its current state and a picture of what it will possibly look like,, any suggestions welcome as nothing set in stone its only an idea at the moment..

no i havent until just,, it seems i decided to do it exactly the same as his,,, like i said itll probs be different from that,, it doesnt matter if it was the same anyway because how many engines are identical.. however for the sake of knowlingly doing it the same ill change it somehow,, i wasnt too sure on the yellow block anyway so that may be what changes.

I wouldn't worry about changing it for the sake of feeling like your copying.
But least you know you haven't got to worry about a Photoshop, as its been done >_<

well a bits cracked off over crimbo n new year,, i have sold my superstars i was fed up with them rubbing on the inner arch and jut generally being hard to steer in comparsion to a 12'' setup. in return for the car i purshaced 2 cobra clubmans with willans 4 point harnesses and a set of 12'' revos..cheers tjenkos!!! >_< it drives much better now with the smaller wheels i can actually turn the wheel when parking without dislocating my shoulders!!!!!! also with these wheels they are in the confines of the arches so will pass at MOT time, could possibly do with some 1/2 inch spacers to fill them right to the edge but they look good enough for the moment.
i got the seats as the cream ones i have are just not practical for a grubby bugger like myself.. if you were careful with them they would be fine plus they do look ace so these will be for sale soon..

also i got myself a timing light and timed the engine, i cant beleive it was actually starting up because once i got the light on it i found the engine was nearly 90degrees advanced, i guess that explains y it was running a bit rubbish and the mixture had to be so rich also i set the plug gaps as they were around .25mm too wide. on inspection of the plugs cylinder 3&4 were really sooty but cylinders 1&2 were whitey/grey in appearance. does this mean anything to anyone??????
anyhoo i set the timing up at the specified settings and it now runs a dream plus iv been able to weaken the mixture tremendously..
hopefully might get my new doors soon and the removable front end,, just need to work a load of overtime at work because im kinda skint after crimbo..

iv got myself a welder to courtesy of forum member lastmanshooting,, so i will get around to doing the few bits of welding which need doing at some point these are;

new scuttle
repair to top of bulkhead where it joins scuttle as the middle portion has begun to rot
new a panels,, or possibly new front end will have them on in fibreglass
rust around passenger rear window.

thats about it for welding as the shell is really solid underneath.

i am tempted to deseam the rear,, however i think its a task a little bit to big for me, seems like a lot of filling involved, but i may change my mind yet..

also managed to get a set of door pockets off the same guy today as there were just lying in his garage and he was only gonna chuck them, quite handy really as i wanted to get a set anyway.

update time,, iv been doing a bit of cutting of tin worm and welding,, i removed the passenger rear quarter and was presented with some lovely rust!!! i could see a bit peeking out around the window which is why i removed it,, after some umming and arring i got to it and cut the rusty part out and welded in a fresh bit of metal then zinc primed it.

i removed the other rear quarter and this has no rust at all on the frame what a bonus, also the rear window has no rust on the frame things are looking up. just need to pick up my scuttle at bingley, also picking up a set of opening rear quarters off a member on here.
if i get chance aty the weekend i will get the inside painted, im gonna use my earlex sprayer just to give it a go at spraying a large amount, just need to get some black paint probably hammerite i guess.
